Drew Brees continues to make it abundantly clear that he wants to remain with the New Orleans Saints for the rest of his career.

The Saints veteran quarterback, set to become an unrestricted free agent in March, doubled down on his hope that he finishes his NFL run that will one day end in Canton in New Orleans.

Brees was making an appearance this week on “Ellen” when he made his latest pledge of loyalty to the Saints organization.

“Of course I’m coming back,” the 39-year-old Brees said. “I’m a Saint for life. I’m a New Orleans Saint for life.”

Brees’ comments to Ellen come on the heels of saying last month that as far as his future with the Saints is concerned, “I’ll be here as long as they’ll have me.”

The Saints are the only team that can presently negotiate with Brees, but that changes on March 12. Brees mentioned last month he does not plan to listen to other offers if a deal with the Saints can’t be hammered out ahead that date. The new NFL year begins and free agency opens on March 14.

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis reinforced the notion Brees will be back one way or another by indicating he is “not anticipating any big issues” standing in the way of signing the quarterback to a new contract.

There obviously would be no shortage of suitors for Brees should things not work out with the Saints. That said, there is little reason to be believe Brees won’t be back with New Orleans next season. Brees himself is indicating as much.
