He fought for a new contract one year ago, and it ended up making him the highest paid player in the league. But that doesn’t mean that Drew Brees doesn’t have sensibilities. The New Orleans quarterback admitted in an interview with WWL radio, that even he really isn’t deserving of all the money that he makes: “Yes, we probably do,” Brees recently told WWL radio in New Orleans, via the team’s official website. “Unless you’re finding a cure for cancer or creating world peace, I don’t know if anybody deserves to get that much money. That’s the industry that we’re in. You could probably say the same for actors, actresses and entertainers. We’re in the entertainment industry and business is business and there is a market. The market establishes what you get paid.” And that final sentence is what is important. NFL teams do very well for themselves, and can afford several multi-million contracts, including one like Brees’ and not see it impact their bottom-line. As long as fan interest continues to grow exponentially, so will the these long-term deals.
