So much for signing Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks to long-term deals. The New York Giants have found themselves in the precarious position of having to sign two top flight wide receivers, or risk letting at least one of them go. Cruz is a restricted free agent heading as of March 12th, and Nicks still has one more year remaining on his deal. Both have outplayed their previous contract, especially Cruz, who was only paid $490k last season. The Giants don’t have to sign either player to a longterm deal prior to the 2013 season, but would like to eliminate the threat of both hitting the market in 2014 as unrestricted free agents. But with the Chiefs signing Dwayne Bowe to a deal that makes him the 3rd highest paid WR in the league, it puts the Giants and GM Jerry Reese into an even tougher spot. It would appear as if push came to shove, the Giants would select Hakeem Nicks over Cruz. Nicks is the bigger threat when healthy.
