Former Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney is open to play anywhere in the league but he’s got one city he’d really like to play, New York. Freeney played college ball at Syracuse and grew up in nearby Connecticut, so for someone whose nearing the end of his career a trip home sounds like a good idea. Also helps that both the New York Giants and New York Jets could use some help on the defensive line. Freeney, who was released by Indianapolis earlier this month, said on SiriusXM Radio that he hopes to sign with a contender. And he openly professed that he’d love the idea of suiting up for one of New York’s football teams. In fact, Freeney said, he thinks Rex Ryan is “a great guy.” “I actually know Rex,” he said. “I met him a few times. Rex knows how to free guys up. That would be a good fit. A lot of teams would be a good fit.” The Giants would fit Freeney personally, too. “I grew up a Giants fan, actually,” said Freeney, who attended Syracuse University. “All my life. So that would be a dream. Wherever I go, I’m just going to give it my all. “Not just the Giants,” Freeney added. “There’s other teams on that list I’m sure my agent is going to bring up and say ‘Hey, this is a great fit, this is what they’re trying to do.’ We’ll see what happens the next two weeks. This is new to me.” (The Blue Screen) Personally, I love the thought of Freeney joining the Giants. He could easily step in and fill in the role formerly occupied by Osi Umenyiora. A pass rushing specialist for an obvious passing down. Could be a beautiful thing especially if it’s at a bargain basement price. addthis_url = 'http%3A%2F%2Fmysportsrumors.com%2Fblog%2F2013%2F02%2F21%2Fdwight-freeney-new-york-state-of-mind%2F'; addthis_title = 'Dwight+Freeney+%26%238211%3B+New+York+State+of+Mind'; addthis_pub = '';
