There have been many reports that Baylor quarterback and Heisman winner Robert Griffin III has met with the Eagles at Lucas Oil Stadium. After being confirmed, the Eagles also confirmed their recent 1-year contract with quarterback Trent Edwards. Why?

After 5 years in the league and literally nothing to show for it, the Philadelphia Eagles decided to sign the quarterback to their roster. This move baffles me and is probably the worst decision the franchise has made since letting go Brian Dawkins. Why sign a guy who didn’t even play in 2011, let alone throw 2 touchdowns and 5 interceptions in 2010? The fact is Trent Edwards is useless. As harsh as this sounds, it is true. He will be competing with Mike Kafka to back up Mike Vick, so 3-rd string is what his future holds in Philly. Edwards was drafting back in 2007 to the Buffalo Bills and has a 26:30 touchdown to interception ratio in his career. Not to mention his 6,019 career passing yards is almost as much as Drew Brees threw last season for the Saints! This means Vince Young will be shown the road, and yet the Eagles still have no one to fall back on if and when Vick goes down. Honestly, as much as I hate Vince Young, I would pick him over Edwards every time.

If the Eagles talked to Griffin III and signed Edwards on the same night, this must mean the talks were nothing serious. I, for one, would love for the Eagles to man-up and trade-up for the Baylor star. Yes, the Eagles have Vick currently and they main focus in this draft will be repairing the defense, but this move would definitely help them out in the long run. Vick is the face of the Eagles franchise and everyone knows that, the only problem is the longevity of that statement. Vick is a guy who is heavily prone to injury and has missed seven games for the Eagles over the past two seasons. The fact is Vick will not be the starter five years down the line, so why not get a guy who will be? I understand trading up and taking Griffin would be a huge risk a lot of people would be extremely mad, but hey, it wouldn’t be the first time.

So now the Eagles have Trent Edwards wearing green, on the bench. Like I said before, I truly do not understand this deal at all, but the Eagles must have seen something in him for them to sign him. With his time in Buffalo, the Bills failed to make the playoffs and the best Edwards finished a season was 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 2008…not much of a crowd favorite to say the least.

Who knows what the Eagles were thinking. All I know is the Eagles know 2012 means business.

Mike Kafka vs. Trent Edwards

It isn’t Mayweather vs. Pacquio. Heck, it isn’t even Kramer vs. Kramer. RGIII to the Eagles Speculation Heats Up

If Academy Awards were handed out at the NFL Scouting Combine, one thing is clear: The big winner would be Robert Griffin III. Does Trent Edwards Tip Eagles Hand?

No one is saddened that the Vince Young Era in Philadelphia has ended but the Eagles QB position has been a bit of a Merry Go Round after a decade of stability. Less than a year ago the news was that Vince Young was headed into town to replace Kevin Kolb as the Eagles backup QB. Kolb had once been the starter supplanting the departed Donovan McNabb but was sidelined with a concussion...
