When the San Francisco 49ers finally let Alex Smith air it out, he outdid Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles. Chucking its conservative approach in the second half, the 49ers surged back from a 20-point hole and beat the Eagles 24-23 on Sunday. Vick wasn't hampered by his bruised right hand, throwing for a career-high 416 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for 75 yards.

- As most of the 49ers jumped and hollered and thrust fists into the air, Alex Smith walked calmly toward the line of scrimmage, beckoning his teammates to return for a perfunctory kneel-down that would finish the franchise's most significant win in nearly nine years.
His emotions remained hidden until he removed his helmet for the final handshakes, revealing a grin that expanded...
Eagles Passing Attack vs. 49ers Secondary
The linebackers, secondary, offensive line and coaches have all been blamed for the Eagles 1-2 start, but it can be argued that the bread and butter of this team- the passing attack- is really the reason for the disappointing start. Despite having arguably the best combination of play makers on offense in the league, the Eagles are only...
The 49ers haven’t been able to run the ball this year. They’ve struggled to protect Alex Smith. Their offensive line was supposed to be the foundation to the team, but it hasn’t worked out that way so far. “Contrary to everyone’s belief, we don’t suck,” tackle Staley said via Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.…
MWho didn't see that coming? The 49ers ' 442 total yards nearly doubled their previous best (226, the previous Sunday) and they ripped off 21 second-half points after managing 16 in their previous seven quarters. QB Alex Smith was perfect (158.3 rating in third quarter)...
Which way does the thumb turn for the 49ers after their 24-23 comeback victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, including a new awakening for the West Coast offense, RBs Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter, QB Alex Smith leading the charge, DT Justin Smith, LBs NaVorro Bowman and Aldon Smith coming up big, a resilient defense torched for 513 yards, winning the TO battle again and much more? PHILADELPHIA Sunday's 20-point comeback hung in the balance. The 49ers defense was in a steady backpedal. Then came Justin Smith, and out went the football.
Smith, a 285-pound defensive end, chased down Philadelphia Eagles speedy receiver Jeremy Maclin and forced a fumble that safety Dashon Goldson recovered at the 49ers' 31-yard line.
Once the 49ers burned off the final...
Big game tomorrow at Lincoln Financial Field. If the Eagles are, you know, trying to win the Super Bowl, they’ll need to win this game. I got in touch with the editor of Fansided’s 49ers blog, Eric Melendez, to gain some knowledge on this San Francisco team. Here’s what he had to say.P.S. I’m about seven beers deep, putting this together during the ninth inning of the Phils’...
