Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Jason Babin was fined $15,750 for roughing Cleveland Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden in last Sunday's season opener, according to Philly.com. Babin was fined for "unnecessarily" driving Weeden into the ground, even though no penalty was called on the play. He received a fine on a similar play last year for roughing the passer. Babin has been outspoken about how the league fines players. "I don't think they like the way I play at all," Babin said after last October's incident. "I'm pretty sure they get nervous every time because they know I'm throwing and someone gets hurt. But that's what got me paid, that's what got me where I am today. I'm not going to change."

Brandon Weeden Sets Browns Rookie Mark for Passing Yards

From the Browns- “Rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden completed 26 of 37 passes (70.3%) for 322 yards and his first two career passing touchdowns. He finished with a 114.9 rating. His 322 passing yards were a Browns rookie record surpassing the previous mark of 310 set by Eric Zeier at Cincinnati on October 29, 1995.” MOST PASSING YARDS IN A GAME BY A BROWNS ROOKIE      ...

Shurmurball Week 2: It gets better?

It can’t get any worse for Brandon Weeden and the Browns offense today in Cincinnati against the Queen City Kitties. But can it be just as bad? And the defense? Did it contain the Eagles last week or did the Eagles contain themselves? The Week 2 NFL picks are here and the rest is your Shurmurball Week 2 support group open thread. Tweet

How were your predictions? – Eagles vs. Browns

I apologize for not getting this done earlier in the week. Remember this year, instead of doing “The Browns Will Win If…” we are boiling it down to a reader’s survey. 200-ish of you filled it out last week prior to the Bengals game with your expectations. Here’s how you/we did. The final score for the game was Eagles 17 – Browns 16. Browns fans predicted the Browns would...

Browns move ball but defense dominated by Bengals

“The Browns’ young secondary battled, but was strained by the loss of Haden to his suspension and Brown to a neck stinger.” — Mary Kay Cabot “Last week [against the Ravens] was just bad. This week some of the [Browns' longer gains] were checkdowns that we missed.” — Bengals cornerback Leon Hall “I wish I had a dollar for every hour I put in this week.” — Brandon...

Cleveland Browns vs. Cincinnati Bengals: Hero and Zero of the Game

In a game that was supposed to be one of the more boring games in the NFL this week the clash of Ohio turned out to be a high scoring barn burner.  Both teams wanted to come out and show that last weeks performances were just anomalies and they could really play. In a game with many heroes and no zeros I thought we would do an ode to Hockey giving out the three stars of the game...

Cleveland Browns Find Positives In Loss Against Bengals

I was able to take in the Browns at Bengals game this afternoon from the 30-yard line at Paul Brown Stadium, and despite a tough division loss, the Browns looked better than I thought they would.Defensively, Cleveland took a step backwards, giving up 27 points (the other Bengals TD was a punt return).  This was to be expected with star cornerback Joe Haden out due to a suspension...

Idle chatter: A pair of long seasons ahead?

1. That we keep using the word "historical" with the, um, achievements of the Browns offense can not be a good thing. How do the Browns go about getting it fixed? McManamon: Hope. Thats basically what the Browns are relying on at this point. Hope that Trent Richardson gets better quickly and revives the moribund running game. Hope that Brandon Weedens opener was just an...
