In an interview with Wilmington News Journal, Eagles’ cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie says he’s “just happy” to be playing outside this season. In his first season with the Eagles, DRC really struggled playing primarily on the slot, allowing 25 completions on 42 attempts (59.5%) for 354 yards (8.4 YPA), no touchdowns, and no interceptions, while deflecting 6 passes and not committing a penalty. He was especially bad on the slot, allowing 17 completions on 23 attempts for 284 yards. Now playing full time outside with Asante Samuel gone, DRC should have a bounce back year, especially in a contract year. Remember, he was a 2008 1st round pick and a 2009 Pro-Bowler. With Nnamdi Asomugha expected to have a bounce back year now that he’ll be playing more man coverage and less zone, and with Brandon Boykin, a natural fit on the slot, the Eagles should improve over their 16th ranked pass defense in 2011, allowing 7.2 YPA, even without Asante Samuel. With a strong pass rush and improv...

Philadelphia Eagles: King Dunlap overtakes Demetress Bell at LT

Left tackle Demetress Bell was signed this offseason to  stand in for Pro Bowler Jason Peters after he went down with an offseason Achilles injury. The success of the offensive line is critical for ensuring success for the Philadelphia Eagles this season, and after just one preseason game the Birds decided that change was needed. During Saturday’s walk through, the towering King...

Observations and Notes From Eagles Preseason Opener Versus Steelers

The Philadelphia Eagles won their preseason opener in dramatic fashion when Alex Henery kicked a 51-yard field goal in the final seconds to give the birds a 24-23 victory.  In a game that was dedicated to Andy Reid’s son, Garrett, it was the backups who came through in the clutch. Despite preseason win, Eagles have ways to improve

While compassionate fans showed their support for Andy Reid, most of the Philadelphia Eagles gave a boo-worthy performance in their preseason opener. The first-team offense went three-and-out twice and Michael Vick barely escaped serious injury when he hurt his thumb on his last play. The starting defense allowed an opening drive that lasted 9:48 and gave up 10 points on two possessions...

Recent Depth Chart Changes For the Eagles a Cause for Concern?

Yong Kim/Philly.com Staff Photographer There were a few temporary or possibly permanent depth chart moves by the Philadelphia Eagles at training camp over this past weekend. A starting player was demoted to second string, a second-stringer may have been bumped to the third team and a third-stringer is now running with the twos. Okay, first things first... Though nobody knew it at...

Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie will retain full control over the team after his divorce was settled, NFL.com reported Saturday. Only a small, non-voting share...

Back to Eagles camp...and some TV observations of the Steelers preseason game...

After a day off on Friday, the Eagles are back to work at Lehigh on Saturday.  I finally got to watch the game on a full-screen TV. It's weird to watch a game without the usual delays between plays, quarters and halves...I won't rehash the whole game out of respect for our regular Bored readers, but I'll make some quick observations...Serious questions still remain...

Mike Kafka Injured, Nick Foles to Step in as Number Two Quarterback

Eagles backup quarterback Mike Kafka suffered a broken left hand in the Eagles 24-23 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Kafka played through the injury during the game, but will now be sidelined as his left hand is heavily wrapped.  Kafka throws with his right hand, so he is still participating in a limited role during practice.  Today he threw during individual drills and 7...
