The conversation could have gone like this where Eli Manning placed a call to his older brother Peyton at some point this week: “Hey Bro tell me everything about the Eagles’ defense.” Peyton Manning’s response could have been as simple as “Just watch the film little brother.” The Eagles are facing a Manning brother for the second consecutive week in Eli Manning and the Giants at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. The difference of course is that Eli isn’t on a record-setting pace for a quarterback like Peyton who dissected the Eagles last Sunday in Denver’s 52-20 win. Instead Eli Manning has thrown nine interceptions through four games and has been sacked 14 times for the 0-4 Giants. Eli Manning’s offensive line is in tatters as stalwarts Chris Snee and David Baas are both listed as out for the game. The Giants have no running game to speak of as they average just 56.3 yards per game. There probably isn’t much Peyton could tell his brother if Eli is going to be running for his life most of the time other than perhaps “duck.” “I don’t think Eli gets credit for just how tough he is” Eagles coach Chip Kelly said. “He gets hit just gets up and has the same exact demeanor then goes and continues to do the exact same thing.” There’s one other thing that Kelly marveled about with Eli Manning and that’s his accuracy on deep throws to wide receivers like Victor Cruz Hakeem Nicks and Rueben Randle. “He may be the best deep-ball thrower in the game” Kelly said. But throwing deep requires time which means the Eagles have to put pressure on him so he doesn’t have it. If he has the time he could pick apart the defense just like his older brother did. And Eli Manning threw for 450 yards in a 36-31 loss to Dallas in the season opener. The Eagles meanwhile haven’t held an opposing quarterback under 300 yards yet this season. Their pass defense ranks 31st in the NFL allowing an average of 325 yards per game. “We have to get to him” linebacker DeMeco Ryans said. “We have to put pressure on him. Eli can make all the throws. He’s a Super Bowl MVP great quarterback. But we have to rattle him get him off his spot and make him make the decisions he doesn’t want to make
