Eagles QB Michael Vick

It’s been a familiar theme this year for the Philadelphia Eagles… Can Michael Vick stay healthy? After two preseason starts in which Vick never made it past the first two series before succumbing to an injury, the question becomes more and more relevant even if the question has been asked for months already.

Michael Vick once again shrugged off concerns and insinuations that he is injury prone, saying that he and his injured ribs will be ready for the season opener. The question is… How long will he stay ready?

A lot of NFL pundits are picking the Eagles for a very deep playoff run, and certainly to win the NFC East division. While the Eagles are very talented and very deep at a lot of positions, their success will be predicated on the play of Michael Vick and a defense that is still showing signs of the weakness we saw last year.

As everyone under the sun knows by now, Michael Vick has started a full compliment of regular season games only once in his career. And that was a long time ago. His refusal to slide and to play the game in a way that protects himself from unnecessary contact is becoming the source of a lot of frustration in Eagles Nation.

There aren’t too many people in the area that I’ve spoken to that believe Vick will stay healthy. There’s also an underlying sense of dread with a lot of Eagles fans. And let’s face it, no one would be calling for Nick Foles to be this team’s starting QB if everyone was confident in Michael Vick.

I’m not saying Foles should start. I don’t think he should, in fact, but you definitely have to be concerned about Michael Vick’s health. Especially since he isn’t.
