DeSean JacksonLet me preface my words by stating that a true Philadelphia Eagles fan will devote time to watch what is happening during free agency despite “having” to watch multiple basketball games in a row. They don’t call it March Madness for no reason. I would also like to go on the record as picking our Temple Owls to go to the Sweet Sixteen.

But I digress; let’s talk Eagles and Free Agency. Free Agency can be a lot like an annual sale at your favorite store or an auction. A free agent is a player that is under no contract with a team, and can in theory come to play for our team – much like purchasing a new outfit; restricted agents come with some limitations. Acquiring them is similar to the purchase of a piece of art at an auction – their current team can match the highest offer and keep that player.

I spent the first few hours of free agency glued to Twitter, checking with my fellow Eagles fans, and looking for any activity from our Birds. It almost felt like I got to the year-end sale 2 hours too late and all the good stuff was gone. Little did I know that the Philadelphia Eagles were quietly taking care of some in-house business, like they used to do a few years ago.  By giving contracts Trent Cole and Todd Herremans, our team secured two of its most experienced players.  It is the equivalent of buying a great coat that you’ll wear often and have for many years to come.  Watching other teams make some moves on Wide Receivers (notably Vincent Jackson to Tampa Bay, Pierre Garçon to the Redskins, among others) made me rejoice when we signed DeSean Jackson till 2016 (he will have millions of reasons not to pout in 2012). Now, that is the equivalent of splurging on a designer bag (I am partial to my LVs!).

Now, the Eagles still have some shopping to do, specifically in the linebacker position. However, like any good shopper knows, sometimes it is better to wait, watch the price go down, and then make your move.  Perhaps, our male football experts could learn a few lessons from us ladies in the shopping department?!
