At 4PM Eastern Time today, the NFL celebrated it’s league New Year. In short, the 2012 season kicked off officially and free agency goes along with it.
The Philadelphia Eagles have not landed any NEW free agents, but they have agreed to a 3-year contract extension with offensive tackle/guard Todd Herremans. There are rumors that the Eagles are also working on an extension with Defensive End Trent Cole.
The Eagles announced a new deal with Herremans earlier in the day, opting reward a player who has been with the team and performed well and has become a leader on the offensive line. Herremans was signed through the 2013 season, but was still rewarded with. 3-year $21 million extension that will keep him in Eagles green through 2016.
ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio is also reporting that the Eagles are working to extend the contract of defensive end Trent Cole. According to the report, the deal is very nearly done with the two sides already agreeing to terms.

Compared to Vincent Jackson’s signing at Tampa Bay for $55.555 million for five year, Jackson’s deal makes sense.
