The second quarter opened in about the worst way possible for the Redskins. It finished that way, too, with the Eagles taking a 27-10 lead into halftime. The score marked the most points the Redskins had given up in the first half during Jim Zorn's tenure as head coach. On the quarter's opening play, Eagles' linebacker Will Witherspoon slapped the ball loose from Jason Campbell and safety Quintin Mikell recovered - the same pair who combined on the Eagles' defensive touchdown on the previous Washington possession. Philadelphia took over on the Redskins' 36-yard line but had to settle for a 47-yard field goal off the foot of kicker David Akers. A 17-0 lead this early in the second quarter couldn't have been good for the "Monday Night Football" ratings. The Redskins did mount their first scoring drive of the game.
