The lines of scrimmage were hit hard by injury during Sunday’s loss to the 49ers. In addition to defensive tackle Antonio Dixon’s season most likely being over due to a tricep injury, defensive end Trent Cole (calf strain) and offensive tackle Jason Peters (hamstring strain) suffered “fairly significant” injuries in the game as well, according to head coach Andy Reid. Cole suffered a calf strain in the fourth quarter of the game on fellow end Jason Babin’s third sack of the game. Reid said that the next couple of days are very important and the team will see how Cole does. Without Cole at the end of the game Sunday, the Eagles were down to just two healthy defensive ends in Babin and rookie Phillip Hunt. Defensive end Darryl Tapp has been sidelined since the season opener in St. Louis. Tapp returned to practice in a limited capacity last week. He told reporters on Friday that he would most likely be kept out of Sunday’s game against San Francisco with an eye on making his return this Sunday in Buffalo.
