Eagles’ Head Coach Andy Reid admitted that defensive tackle Mike Patterson will be out for a while and could miss the entire season, according to CSN Philly. The Eagles have placed him on the non-football injury list, which functions the same way as the PUP, meaning Patterson can be activated after week 6, but that doesn’t seem likely. Patterson had surgery on his brain to remove a malformed vein (AVM) at the beginning of the offseason in January and while they expected him to be back by this point, it shouldn’t be surprising that he isn’t. This isn’t exactly something you can just rub some dirt on and go back out there and tough it out. Sadly, this could be a career threatening injury for the talented soon to be 29 year old. The Eagles prepared themselves for this scenario by using a 1st round pick on Fletcher Cox. Cox could be the starter opposite Cullen Jenkins, but even if he isn’t, he’ll see a large role.
