Well that was fun, wasn’t it? The Eagles opened the game by driving the ball all the way down the field in dominant fashion before a deflected lateral ended up being returned for a Redskins touchdown. Despite the ultimate buzzkill, the Birds shook it off and again showed their dominance on the offensive side of the ball but had to settle for three. After the ensuing kickoff, the Redskins handed the ball to Alfred Morris who has the ball jarred loose by Trent Cole which was recovered by Mychal Kendricks. The first offensive play resulted in Michael Vick lining up under center for the first time. Off the play action, he found DeSean Jackson wide open in the end zone for a touchdown. In the following offensive series for the Redskins, the Eagles forced yet another turnover with Brandon Boykin intercepting a Robert Griffin III pass. The Eagles were forced to punt but pinned the Redskins deep. The defense stepped up again, taking advantage of a bad RGIII pitch in the end zone that ended up in a safety. Throughout the rest of the half, the Eagles continued to move the ball well, highlighted by the running of LeSean McCoy who ended the night with 184 yards on 31 carries. The second half was much less exciting for the Eagles. The offense didn’t find as much success and Vick got beat up on a number of plays. Defensively, the Eagles didn’t give up their first points until late in the third quarter but they struggled to slow the Redskins down after that. Overall, the Birds got a 33-27 win and there were plenty of good takeaways. At the same time, there is plenty to work on before they take on the Chargers next Sunday.
