Eagles sign Greg Salas
The Philadelphia Eagles added a former New England Patriots receiver. No, not Deion Branch, but unknown, Greg Salas, who appeared in only one regular season game.
At ( 6’1″, 209 pounds) Salas, was a 4th-round pick of the St. Louis Rams in 2011 out of the University of Hawaii. Last season he had 27 receptions for 264 yards and no touchdowns before being traded to the Patriots for a 7th-round pick, just before the start of this season. His release came just prior to New England’s Thursday night win over the New York Jets. This marks the second time Salas has been waived by the Patriots, but was resigned to the practice squad back in September. He was added to the active roster after Branch was let go on November 17th. Salas had no receptions in the only game he dressed for against the Indianapolis Colts.
Mardy Gilyard was a 4th-round pick of the Rams in 2010 out of the University of Cincinnati, but was released at the final roster cut down in 2011. He signed with the Eagles and was also a final cut after this year’s training camp, but was re-signed two days after the start of the regular season. Gilyard appeared in 6 games with no receptions, but did contribute on special teams, returning punts and covering kicks. He just returned to full practice after missing the last 3 games with a hamstring injury.
Salas may be used to return kicks as the Eagles rank near the bottom of the league in return yardage.
