Tim MacManus of Birds 24/7 expects to see the Eagles to find another tight end at some point during the offseason.
MacManus believes that it’s time to find a “complement/eventual replacement” for Brent Celek and mentions that the Eagles “came away from the Senior Bowl impressed with Rice tight end Vance McDonald.”
Celek, 28, signed an eight-year deal worth $34.01 million back in 2009. He still has another four years left on this deal with base salaries of $3.256 million (2014), $4 million (2015), $4.725 million (2016) and $4.925 million (2017) coming his way.
Clay Harbor has had much of an impact in the Eagles’ offense and it’s hard to say Evan Moore is ever going to be a difference-maker.
There are some options in the free agent market like Jared Cook, Dustin Keller, Brandon Myers and Anthony Fasano, but head coach Chip Kelly may want to bring in some young talent that he can mold in the coming years versus paying market price for a veteran.
