The Eagles continue to make moves to upgrade their roster, and allow themselves some flexibility. NFL.com is reporting that defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins has been released in a salary cap measure.
Jenkins was due $5.5 million from a five-year $30 million deal he signed as a free agent in 2011. Eagles GM Howie Roseman released a statement on the matter, and simply states that Jenkins didn’t fit in their plans.
“I had a chance to speak with Cullen today and let him know of our decision,” Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said. “It’s one of the most difficult parts of the job. He has been a very productive player in this league for a long time, but we felt it in our team’s best interests that we go in a different direction.”
Jenkins was a bright spot for an underachieving defense, but at 32 was not worth the contract he signed.
