The 2012 NFL season is finally here, and the Browns kick it off against what is projected to be one of the NFC’s best. The Browns have lost 12 of their 13 openers since returning to the league in 1999 — 12 of which, like today, were played along the lakefront. The Eagles will present another tough test, with the Browns getting around 10 points in most odds.
There’s always optimism at the start of a new season, but on Thursday, Craig surveyed the WFNY readership on their thoughts for the Eagles game. Below are the results of that survey and how you think things will shake out this beautiful afternoon on Lake Erie.
But we won’t torture you to read all the way to the end. Ultimately, the WFNY readership has predicted a 27-16 loss for our Cleveland browns today on opening day. Most Browns fans are probably aware of the spread, and even then, the smart money would apparently be on the Eagles.
A majority of the readers think the Browns rush for 75-100 yards. The news of Trent Richardson’...

Weeden: We’re Going to Turn it Around
As an athlete, even though you wish you’re going to be all up, there are going to be some downs. Fortunately for me, I’ve had games where I haven’t played as well but I felt like I had given my team a chance to win. And today, there were times where I didn’t really do that; that’s the part that gets me the most. I really take a lot of pride in giving whatever it is I...
Five Reasons to Believe Brandon Weeden Can Be Better
I decided after my exercise in recapping this afternoon to figure out some ways to look at the bright side. It is in my nature, anyway, so why not? So, here are five (non-slideshow) reasons to help us all think that Brandon Weeden’s first game as a pro was something of a fluke and he can be better.
5. The Eagles defense is really good. Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie...

Weeden caught under flag during pregame
So far, this is our favorite moment of NFL opening Sunday.
Watch Browns rookie QB Brandon Weeden – making his first pro start, and clearly still adjusting to the NFL stage – get caught under the American flag during today’s Browns-Eagles pre-game ceremonies:

Shurmur: Weeden is Our Starter

Terrible Tuesdays: More from Shurmur and Weeden on Fun Browns Loss to Eagles
Terrible Tuesdays: Because the careening dumpster fire that is the Holmgren/Shurmur regime and the 2012 Cleveland Browns is too much to clean up after in just one day. So first from The Anointed One, Brandon Weeden, after turning in a performance as bad as only 0.05% of the quarterbacks in NFL history have ever managed, when asked if his NFL debut “felt different” from his college...
Browns confident Weeden will improve after clunker
Browns coach Pat Shurmur dismissed any concern about rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden, who struggled terribly in his NFL debut.
Weeden threw four interceptions in Sunday's 17-16 loss to Philadelphia. The first-round pick completed 12 of 35 passes for 118 yards and finished with a 5.1 rating, one of the lowest by a QB in a season opener since the merger in 1970.

15 reasons the Browns will win and 15 reasons they will lose
Cleveland Browns fans are tired of waiting and hoping for someday. The Browns had the fourth youngest team in the NFL last year; and they are going to be even younger in 2012. Fifteen rookies including QB Brandon Weeden and RB Trent Richardson made the team to go along with 11 second-year players and seven players entering their third year. That means that 62% (33 players) of...
Eagles avoid disaster in Cleveland
The Eagles were once again anointed at the beginning of the preseason as the "team to beat" in the NFC East. For the remainder of the week, we'll get to hear analysts backing off and distancing themselves from those claims.

Browns defense deserves better in 17-16 loss to the Eagles
The Cleveland Browns’ defense came out as if they were fired out of a cannon. The unit that seemingly never got off the field a year ago, was forcing turnovers, flying all over the place and making life miserable for Michael Vick and his receivers. D’Qwell Jackson played like the grizzled vet. L.J. Fort and Craig Robertson played inspired youngsters. Frostee Rucker and Juqua...

It was hot debate all day long and there were hypotheticals going all over the place. Ultimately most fans seemed to decide that even if it was the wrong decision, there were many other much larger issues in need of discussion. Brandon Weeden’s overall performance and appearance of lack of preparation come to mind. Bill Barnwell at Grantland ups the stakes a bit with his statistical...
