It's been speculated that Ed Reed signed with the Texans simply because they offered a multiyear contract and the chance to win now.
However, the veteran safety set these particular wheels in motion long before he hit the open market.
According to a tweet from State of the Texans on Tuesday, Texans perennial All-Pro receiver Andre Johnson sent a congratulatory text to Reed after the ex-Raven won his first Super Bowl title.
Reed responded by saying, "Get me to Houston."
And just like that, the former University of Miami teammates were reunited.
It's unclear how much influence -- if any -- Johnson truly had, but his clout shouldn't go completely unrecognized. Remember, he got his wish after publicly asking the Texans to draft a receiver this past April.
Now that his wish too was granted, the 34-year-old Reed will look to return the favor and help the 32-year-old Johnson capture that much-elusive Lombardi Trophy. If he can stay on the field, of course.

In 2011, the Texans won 10 games despite having their starting quarterback and top receiver only play together in 4 games. Before Matt Schaub went down with injury and missed the final 6 games of the season, the Texans were 7-3, scoring 27.3 points per game and allowing 16.6, which would have been 5th and 3rd respectively over the course of the season. The Texans hope Arian Foster (calf) will return from the PUP list by the middle of the week. At this point, the injury doesn't seem to be a long-term concern, but keep in mind Foster averaged a career-low 4.1 YPC last year and racked up 405 carries (including the playoffs).
