If there's one thing Bill Belichick likes in his non-superstar players more than anything else, it's the ability to more than one thing at a reasonably high level. That's why he used to flex linebacker Mike Vrabel out as a red zone tight end, and why he had receiver Troy Brown playing cornerback on a Super Bowl team. The latest subject of Belichick's football experiments is receiver Julian Edelman, the former Kent State quarterback who was selected in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft.
Projected as a receiver and special teamer after breaking many of Josh Cribbs' total yardage records in college, Edelman has indeed become a reliable receiver and return threat, as he exhibited in a 72-yard punt return in the third quarter of the Patriots' 34-3 decimation of the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football.
"We held the gunners and our internal guys did a good job blocking their players," Edelman said after the game. "As a punt returner, you...

FOXBORO, Mass. -- It hasn't exactly been a great season for Julian Edelman, but the Patriots' newest jack of all trades had his best game during Monday's 34-3 victory against the Chiefs. Edelman returned a punt for a touchdown, recorded a tackle on defense and lined up at wide receiver, among other things, against the Chiefs. The former Kent State quarterback transitioned...
One of the biggest plays of the Patriots 34-3 win over the Chiefs was Julian Edelman’s 72-yard punt return. His winding, darting, dodging return made up for an uneven offensive performance and put the game out of reach.
And the fact that Edelman made it happen himself at the start was even more impressive. And he’s just been honored for it.
The Patriots announced that Edelman...
By Paul KenyonFOXBORO _ Julian Edelman had to make a position change to play in the NFL. Now, he has made still another one to give his career a boost.
Edelman, a quarterback in college and wide receiver for the Patriots, was one of the stars of his team's 34-3 victory over Kansas City Monday night. He played two roles.
Edelman returned a punt 72-yard for a touchdown. That...
This was a nice, random treat from Patriots coach Bill Belichick on Friday. I didn’t want the week to go by without mentioning it.
While we wait for the game to start, let’s go back to Belichick getting a question about some teams putting their playbooks on iPads. And in the end, he wound up making fun of technology, himself, and Sabermetrics…. which was awesome.
Here we go...

The Patriots' Julian Edelman has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week, following a week in which he returned a punt 72 yards for a touchdown in a victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
It was the second punt returned for a touchdown in Edelman's career. He is the fourth Patriots player to do it more than once, joining...
Are we really talking about this again? After Tom Brady had the gall to hand a football to Shane Vereen (a guaranteed Hall of Famer who has built a Walter Payton-esque career of overpowering linebackers and scoring dozens of touchdowns per season), the conversation in the football world quickly turned to Bill Belichick, the evil hoodie-wearer who runs up the score on opponents and...
FOXBOROUGH - A few weeks ago, Julian Edelman was a distraction. The Patriots wide receiver and return specialist made headlines when he was arrested and charged with indecent assault and battery for allegedly groping a woman at a Boston nightclub on Halloween night.
FOXBORO - In the past, Bill Belichick has feasted on plenty of inexperienced quarterbacks. He's tortured quite...
New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick addresses the media during his conference call on Tuesday, November 22, 2011.
Tom Brady threw two touchdowns passes to Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman returned a punt 72 yards for another score, helping the Patriots take a 27-3 lead against the Kansas City Chiefs through three quarters on Monday night.
The past month probably hasn’t been too much fun for Julian Edelman. First being a healthy scratch against Pittsburgh. Then being arrested the next day after a Halloween party at a Boston nightclub on groping charges.
Edelman, however, has endured, and reinvented himself. We knew he could return punts. He just re-emphasized that tonight with his 72-yard punt return for a touchdown...
After just a day of contemplation, the Chiefs are in the rear-view mirror. As they should be. The Patriots are on to the Eagles, who they play in Philly on Sunday.
While I gear up for cheesesteaks, the Patriots coaches gear up for the various facets of the Eagles. That includes the question of whether QB Michael Vick will play.
