Found October 10, 2013 on Down and Distance:
This is our new column called “8 in the box.”  It’s a weekly list of 8 have-to-knows within the NFL currently.   1. At the week 5 point teams start worrying about the numbers in the win/loss column in the big scheme of things.  The Bucs, Vikings, Giants, Steelers, Jaguars, Redskins, Falcons, and Panthers all have one win or less.  Will any reach the playoffs?  Will any of them even  reach a .500 record again this season?  Only time will tell, but the watch is on already. 2.  After having mentioned win/loss records, there are three specific big issues with teams this season.  Falcons- After the loss to the Jets this weekend, they are at 1-4.  Can they bounce back after having injuries at both the RB and WR positions? Steelers- The Steelers come out of the bye week ready to face the same Jets that took down the Falcons with hopes to win their first game.  The Steelers are currently 0-4.  Can this team take the bye week and run, or will they be stuffed by the Jets and go 0-5? Giants- The Giants are baffling at best with their 0-5 record.  Eli Manning is playing horrifically, and the running game doesn’t exist.  The defense is about as useful as the cheerleaders. 3.  The Broncos and Peyton Manning are on fire!  There are currently three numbers that stand out. 91- The Broncos are at a +91 in net points.  The next nearest net point difference is +61 the Saints. 29- The Broncos have 29 touchdowns already this year!  The next nearest NFL squad is Dallas with 18. 20- In just 5 games, Peyton Manning has 20 touchdowns. 4.  The league is saying it’s going to be making hard knocks mandatory….  Good idea? 5. The undefeated teams are not plenty, with only three left, and they are… Saints- The Saints have bounced back in a big way with their offense and defense playing immensely better.  Coach Payton coming back along with the addition of Rob Ryan made this team quite a force to be reckoned with once again. Broncos- There can’t be enough said about the Broncos offense.  However, after last week the defense is worrisome.  Giving up 48 points and winning a game is one of the single most difficult things that will be done this season.  The Broncos have a few weeks to get healthy on defense and hopefully in time for the meat of their schedule after the Jaguars. Chiefs- The Chiefs are playing great quiet football.  This team is playing good football under the radar.  They have a great coaching staff, a safe offense, and a really good defense.  Can they win it all? 6.  Matt Schaub is having a pretty bad year but this week it got worse.  This week a “fan” decided to drive to his home and started shouting obscenities and taking pictures of his home and his family.  What is this world coming to? 7.  Aldon Smith is probably not coming back to the NFL anytime soon… He has now been charged with assault weapon possession.  The 49ers have decided to let things move forward before issuing anymore than an acknowledgment. 8.  Commissioner Goodell is contemplating adding two more playoff teams.  Interesting! I think that could be great for teams that are in great divisions.     Follow Us On Twitter!  @DownandDistance Sports-Kings Down and Distance Contributor TJ Dickerman  @wmlfcommish Check out my company World Minor League Football  on Facebook!  And atwww.worldminorleaguefootball.com The post Eight in the box, league wide synopsis appeared first on DOWN & DISTANCE - Presented by Sports-Kings.

Five teams that can beat the Denver Broncos

Peyton Manning is having a ridiculous year. Not that that is anything new to hear. If Manning continues on his pace, not only will he be the third player to ever win the MVP unanimously, but he will also shatter records and quite possibly be labeled as the best season a player has ever had. Some people may refute the latter of those predictions claiming the NFL is now a pass happy...

NYC strip club bans depressing Giants games

Rick’s Cabaret in Manhattan banned the dysfunctional New York Giants from their TV screens because the team’s poor play and winless season is spoiling the mood while the strippers are on stage. In fact, patrons have booing the team on TV — so the girls have to work extra hard.

New York Giants should move on from Eli Manning

This may sound hasty, but the New York Giants should move on from Eli Manning as their quarterback of the future. Sounds crazy, but it’s more than the 0-6 start that is prompting this idea. The Giants are a long way from contending for Super Bowls with multiple issues on the offense and defense. And praying the Giants have two to three great drafts, not good drafts; great drafts...

Giants' TE Brandon Myers says no one can be blamed for Eli Manning's final interception

Last night we debated whether Eli Manning's third interception was on him or on tight end Brandon Myers who -- as Tom Coughlin pointed out -- was able to get his hands on the ball. Myers didn't speak to the press following the game but was available at his locker today. "It was unfortunate. I was there and we just didn't connect" Myers said. He added: "...

Colts will honor Peyton Manning when the Broncos come to town

According to Jarrett Bell of USA TODAY Sports,  the Indianapolis Colts plan on honoring Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning when Denver comes to town ten days from now. The details of the festivities are still being worked out, but it should be a very fun Sunday Night in Indy. “We’re going to have a great tribute to him,” said Colts owner Jim Irsay. ”It’s going to be something...

Teddy Bridgewater Compares Himself to Peyton Manning (Video)

Earlier today, Teddy Bridgewater made the rounds on Sportscenter. He was asked which NFL QB he thinks he is most similar to and he had a very good answer. Peyton Manning. His answer was actually more saying that he patterns his game after the Broncos QB and there is nothing wrong with that. I also think its smart for him to start to get himself associated with the ultimate pocket...

Xs and Os: The Denver Pick Plays

For this week's Xs and Os breakdown, I realize I am risking the possibility of too much Peyton Manning this week. But, then, I countered that possibility with the idea that he is the industry leader in a very competitive business and that we may never see him again during his career vs Dallas (which I am sure they are thankful for), so I decided to cover one more impressive thing...

Under Center: Top 5 Fantasy Quarterbacks for Week 6

The season is rolling right along, as we are now into week six. Peyton Manning continues to run the table as the top fantasy football player, and it’s really not a very close contest as the elder Manning is up to 20 passing touchdowns. He did throw his first interception of the year, but no one could honestly expect a perfect season from any quarterback in that regard. Only two...

Eli Manning: ‘I feel bad for my teammates’

Eli Manning was about to lead the New York Giants to their first victory of the season against the Chicago Bears on Thursday night. But his crushing interception in the final two minutes deep in Chicago territory ended the Giants chance.  The Giants are now 0-6 following the 27-21 loss to the Bears. “It’s difficult. I feel bad for my teammates. I feel bad for my coaches,”...

Jackson, Manning highlight Sweet 16 matchups in SEC Greatest Player tourney

Two of college football's all-time offensive legends are set to meet in the SEC Greatest Player Tournament presented by Direct Auto Insurance. Running back Bo Jackson (Auburn) and quarterback Peyton Manning (Tennessee) still rank among the most celebrated careers of any player in conference history. Jackson ran up 4,303 career yards and 45 total touchdowns en route to the 1985...

Just how ridiculous is the Broncos vs Jaguars spread?

The woeful Jacksonville Jaguars are 28-point underdogs against the Denver Broncos Sunday. Although there are no official records for point spreads, the consensus is that the -28 is tied for the largest spread in NFL gambling history. Anyone who likes to bet on football will tell you that sports books all set their lines independently. However, all casinos seem to eventually find...

Video: Teddy Bridgewater compares himself to Peyton Manning

Answering fan questions on ESPN Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater compared himself to Peyton Manning. Ironically, the question came from a UK fan.

NFL Power Rankings Entering Week 6

Denver Broncos Analysis:  Peyton Manning is great and everything, but what about defense? Defense? Defense? Anyone? 3. Indianapolis Colts Analysis: Colts continue to shine with yet another impressive victory, this time coming against Seattle. 4. Seattle Seahawks...
