Browns Player Quotes 8-4-10

(Elam, Watson)

Abram Elam

(On what he’s seeing from T.J. Ward so far)- “T.J.’s a great competitor and he has the will to learn. With those two things, you can be successful in this league. I’m just admiring going to work with T.J. each and every day because he wants to get better.”

(On what he’s working on to get better this camp)- “We’ve got a few new guys with T.J. and Sheldon (Brown) in the secondary so the communication level has to be on point. That’s one of the things that we are taking from the meeting room out on the field, just trying to communicate and see things the same way in the secondary.”

(On the challenges for a rookie to step right in as a starter in the secondary)- “You have to be a leader and you have to be vocal and sometimes, as a young guy, you are fresh in so you really don’t know your role. T.J.’s really progressing and that’s something that he’s been assertive in and he’s doing a good job.”

(On if he’s becoming one of the leaders in the secondary)- “I think we have a great group of guys. We have a lot of guys that can take control. I just want to be one that they can count on. Guys come to me with questions and I’m willing to stay after late with the young guys and the veteran guys and get things corrected because we want to try to win ball games here.”

Benjamin Watson

(On the rapport that he’s developed with Jake Delhomme)- “I feel like everybody, myself included, are starting to get in better sync. There’s still, obviously, some work to go, but that’s why we’re out here in training camp. I think every practice it gets better and better.”

(On the offense being tight end friendly and if that excites him)- “It’s definitely exciting. As a tight end you get to do a lot of different things, block, catch passes, play special teams. We feel like we have a pretty talented tight end group and we work really hard and we are just doing anything that we can do to help the team. If the ball comes our way, great. If not, at this point, it’s about the team winning the game.”

(On what he’s seen from tight end Evan Moore)- “I think he’s obviously a good player now. I think he’s got a lot of potential. He works really hard. I just met him in the past couple months, but from what I understand from being a young player, he’s definitely made some great strides. I think he can be a really good player.”

(On whether he feels like a leader at his position)- “I feel like we all, on the team, have some sort of leadership. I feel like just the fact, I’m, I guess, a middle-aged player now. I’m not a young player that I have a certain amount of leadership, but then we’ve got a guy like Robert Royal, who we kind of consider him the leader. He’s the oldest, most veteran player and has been here for the longest. He’s done a lot for our group as a leader.”
