Fox Sports Florida:
INDIANAPOLIS -- Broncos vice president John Elway is limited in how hands-on he can be in furthering the development of starting quarterback Tim Tebow, but he's adamant that needed improvements will be made to make Tebow and the Denver offense more effective.
"There's things we have to get him to do within our offense to be more successful as an offense," Elway said. "We feel that's something we have to do to be able to get better as an offense. To add that threat makes everything else he does that much better."
Elway said he expects Tebow to do everything he can in the offseason to progress, and he endorses his current workout regimen at UCLA with Noel Mazzonne. Elway isn't permitted by the CBA to authorize or create any specific workout plan, but said Tebow's work ethic eases any concern that he won't be working to get better.
His strengths -- size, running ability -- were catered to by offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, who was praised by Elway for molding the system to best suit Tebow, who guided the team to the postseason and a playoff win after taking over a 1-4 team.
"He added a spark. I was really happy with his progress. We're hoping he's going to be the guy for a long, long time," Elway said.
Elway said the Broncos are evaluating the type of quarterback they will be interested in during the draft and free agency.
"We're going through that process now," Elway said. "I don't know if we're looking for one like Tim or more of a traditional drop-back quarterback."
Elway said McCoy's offensive system doesn't mandate a Tebow clone. A pocket passer with mobility would also fit.
"You want to see the motion, release, footwok, how the ball comes off," Elway said.
The team will meet with quarterbacks and head coach John Fox said they're looking for two veterans to compete with Tebow.
