Emmanuel Acho doubts whether Jared Goff is good enough to win a Super Bowl after he signed a massive $212 million contract
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

This offseason, one of the biggest question marks in terms of extension has been on Jared Goff. But the Detroit Lions finally answered it when they signed their star quarterback in a lucrative four-year deal, making him the highest-paid quarterback in the history of the franchise history.

As per a source close to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Lions are reportedly signing Goff a four-year deal worth $212 million, including a $170 million guaranteed. With this new deal, Goff is set to make an average annual salary of $53 million, which is the second-highest yearly earnings of a quarterback.

However, not everyone seems on board with such a lucrative deal for Goff. Sports analyst Emmanuel Acho gave his honest take on this new deal that made Goff the second-highest-paid quarterback in the NFL, after Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow

I don’t think Jared Goff is good enough to win a Super Bowl. The reason I don’t know if he’s good enough to win a Super Bowl is because I do subscribe to the ideology of Sean McVay who said, ‘You were good enough to get me there but you weren’t good enough to win it.’ said Emmanuel Acho on a recent episode of Speak

Former NFL linebacker recalled the games against the San Francisco 49ers last season, where he believes Goff “left some plays on the table.” Though he didn’t dismiss Goff’s ability, he argued that $212 million is a lot of money. Concluding his point, Acho asked the Lions whether they were signing Goff for what he did or what he was going to do.

Lions’ Jared Goff surpasses Patrick Mahomes in annual earnings

Even though the Lions’ star QB couldn’t dethrone Burrow from the highest-paid quarterback crown, it seemed to have surpassed future potential Hall of Famer, Patrick Mahomes. Given, that Goff’s new deal promises him a guaranteed annual earning of $53 million, while Burrow earns $55 million hence the highest-paid.

However, as per the contract details of the Kansas City Chiefs star, he signed a 10-year deal worth $450 million making his annual average salary $45 million. Interestingly, he is reportedly set to make $52.65 million through the 2026 season after the restructuring of his contract.

This would make Goff equivalent to the elite quarterback Mahomes, until the 2029 season when Mahomes’ previous deal comes to an end. Additionally, Goff has also surpassed Justin Herbert at $52.5 million and Lamar Jackson at $52 million.
