Andy Reid should be thanking his defense for their lights out performance against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night, as they helped lift the Chiefs to a 26-16 win and a 3-0 start to the season. The Chiefs' defense, which had a pick-six within the first four minutes of the game, was able to keep the Chiefs in the game, as Alex Smith and the offense struggled to get anything going early. It was a dominant performance by the defense, led by Justin Houston's 4.5 sacks on the night, as they were able to contain the fast-paced Eagles' offense. Despite the fact that the defense forced five turnovers, the Chiefs were only able to put 26 points on the board, 12 of which came from Ryan Succop's four field goals. Jamaal Charles scored the only offensive touchdown on the night, a 3-yard run with 13 minutes to play in the game.Alex Smith was pressured all night, as he met the turf five times. First round pick Eric Fisher was getting beat all night, as most of the pressure came from the right side of the line. Fisher wasn't the only lineman struggling, however. The offensive line consistently struggled to handle the heavy pass rush of the Eagles' defense, keeping Alex Smith on his toes all night. Smith completed 22 of 35 passes, but didn't look pretty at all in this win. It was almost like he was trying to be like Mike Vick, but doing a pretty terrible job at it.It is still unclear as to how much Andy Reid is going to rely on the legs of Jamaal Charles. Charles didn't have much of a great night either, rushing for just 92 yards. It's no secret that Reid prefers the pass, but disregarding Charles and his impact on this offense would be a terrible mistake. As far as Fisher goes, it's clear that he still has a learning curve to overcome. Having played only three games in the regular season so far, it's hard to tell if the way he has performed thus far is how he will perform all season. For fan's sake, let's hope not.The Twitterverse was overwhelmingly dissatisfied with Fisher, and probably rightfully so. However, the guy is still a rookie. The offensive line is young, and anybody is going to struggle with a new coach and a new system. Fisher has plenty of upside, but it will take time for the young gun to develop into a reliable tackle. The offensive line won't have it any easier next week, as they face the New York Giants at Arrowhead. The Giants defense may be terrible, but their defensive line is the best part of it. Luckily for the Chiefs, they have 11 days to prepare for them.
