The 2008 NFL regular season ended not even 24 hours ago, and already coaches are being held accountable for their teams lack of performance. Don't worry Cowboy fans Wade Phillips is still your head coach as of 10 AM Eastern Time. However, one person who will not be stalking the sidelines next seas as a head coach is the New York Jets Eric Mangini. According to reports from local radio and ESPN, Mangini was relieved of his head coaching duties earlier today, and an official press conference announcement will be made at 10 AM EST.

The Mangini firing is a difficult one to me. The Jets finished the season 9-7, which is a great turnaround from their performance the previous year. They also acquired Brett Favre late in the off season, which obviously changed their philosophy on the field, and it altered what they could do on offense. Nonetheless the Jets managed to weather the storm for a few weeks at least In the end, the Jets lost four of their last five games including the season finale to the Miami Dolphins in a game where if they had won, they would have made the post season.

Eric Mangini was the New York Jets head coach for three seasons.
