San Francisco 49ers
The first round of the 2013 NFL Draft was marked by a run on offensive lineman. Subsequently, a few really good prospects on the defensive line dropped. The most notable decline was Star Lotulelei tumbling down to the Carolina Panthers at pick #14. Sharriff Floyd fell into the Minnesota Vikings’ lap at pick #23. It was widely known that the San Francisco 49ers were going to trade up to get an impact player. Many thought that it would be a defensive lineman, but it turns out Trent Baalke and Jim Harbaugh had their sights set on another position.
Free safety was the biggest need for the 49ers. Trent Baalke seemed to be set on Eric Reid from LSU. Apparently, the deal with the Dallas Cowboys was in place yesterday morning. Baalke was able to move up to pick #18 from pick #31. The only additional cost was pick #74 (a 3rd rnd pick). Baalke actually showed Jed York a cutup of Eric Reid in the LSU vs Alabama game on draft day morning.
One thing that can be said about Baalke is that he will ...
BEST OF MAXIM
The San Francisco 49ers used the 40th overall pick on Florida State defensive end Tank Carradine. My guess is that the 49ers will use Carradine at both defensive end and linebacker in passing situations. Carradine took somewhat of a fall in this year’s draft because of concerns over his knee after tearing a ligament last season. Need NFL Tickets? The post 49ers upgrade...
The NFC Champions the San Francisco 49ers in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft traded up to select LSU strong safety Eric Reid with the No. 18 overall pick, sending the Nos. 31 and 74 overall picks to the Dallas Cowboys. Photo Credit: Patriots.com Known for his great leadership skills and heavy hitter capabilities in LSU’s defensive secondary, Reid will have an opportunity...
Many people expected the San Francisco 49ers to draft South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore and now they have. The 49ers took Lattimore in the 4th round of this year’s draft. Lattimore will have the chance to take his time in rehabbing his knee after tearing it up last season and he’ll likely become the 49ers starter within the next few years. Need NFL Tickets? ...
@BenVolinPBP According to Matt Maiocco CNSBayArea.com, LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu is a possibility for the 49ers on day two of the NFL draft. Probably not at No. 34, but former LSU cornerback/return man Tyrann Mathieu is a definite Day 2 possibility for the 49ers. — Matt Maiocco (@MaioccoCSN) April 26, 2013 The 49ers need to continue to improve their secondary and Mathieu could...
The San Francisco 49ers moved up six spots in the second round by giving two 2013 selections to the Packers, a 2nd rounder, (no. 61 - Eddie Lacy), and a 6th rounder (173rd overall) to select top tight end Vance McDonald out of Rice.
Vance McDonald is tall and rangy in the mold of the new breed of tight end flooding the NFL. He compares to Philadelphia Eagles Brent Celek. Consensus...
According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis restructured his contract to help the team have the ability to sign all their rookies.
The move creates $1.2 million in cap space. Willis re-worked $1.687 million of his 2013 base salary of $2.4 million to a signing bonus that can be spread over the final 4 years of Willis' deal.
The 49ers traded down in a deal with Dallas that sent pick 31 of the first round to the Cowboys and the No. 74 overall pick in return for the 18th pick in the first round in which the Niners plucked LSU Safety Eric Reid.
Eric Reid possesses the range needed for deep threats, something the 49ers fell susceptible to late last season. He figures to penciled in as the starter along...
We reported yesterday that the 49ers might be a trade partner for the Jets who are looking to trade down.
According to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, the 49ers are looking to trade up in the first round of tonight’s draft to take defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson.
It increasingly sounds like SF wants a DL via trade up with Sheldon Richardson as the likely target.

British discus thrower Lawrence Okoye announced on twitter that he was signing with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent. Okoye has never played organized football but the 6’6, 284 lb athlete will attempt to make a go of it with the 49ers on their defensive line. He is currently the British record holder in the discus throw.
At the NFL Combine, Okoye ran the 40-yard dash in 4.78...
1.18 San Francisco 49ers Eric Reid, S, LSU (6-1¼, 213)
With the eighteenth selection in this year’s NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select safety Eric Reid from LSU. I think the phrase the rich get richer applies here. The 49ers had a hole in the defense after Dashon Goldson left for Tampa Bay and Eric Reid is the guy to fill it at free safety. A hard worker on and...
2.23 San Francisco 49ers Vance McDonald, TE, Rice (6-4, 267)
Vance McDonald was selected by the San Francisco 49ers with the 23rd pick of the 2nd round in the 2013 NFL Draft. Jim Harbaugh sure does love his tight ends, he loses Delanie Walker to free agency and goes out and gets McDonald. He’s a tall athletic player who will present match up problems in the passing game. He needs...
The 49ers drafted Florida State defensive lineman Tank Carradine with the 40th selection in draft on Friday.
The selection followed the team trading down six spots after swapping second-round picks with the Titans.
Carradine gives the 49ers defensive line depth that many expected them to be addressing early in this draft. At 6-foot-4, 276 pounds, he could be an eventual successor...
The San Francisco 49ers have filled another big need, trading up to select Rice tight end Vance McDonald with the 55th selection of the NFL draft.
The NFC champions acquired the pick from the Green Bay Packers on Friday, giving up the 61st choice in the second round and a sixth-round pick at No. 173.
San Francisco lost Delanie Walker, the backup to Vernon Davis, to the Titans last...

The San Francisco 49ers selected cornerback Marcus Cooper out of Rutgers with the last of their three seventh-round picks in the NFL draft Saturday, completing the team's haul of seven players taken on the draft's final day.
Cooper, the No. 252 overall selection, could compete for a reserve role in a San Francisco secondary that is looking to upgrade at the cornerback position...
