New York Giants tight end Ben Patrick said Sunday he chose to retire in order to deal with personal and family matters.Patrick said he needed to leave the NFL in order to sort things out in his personal life. He also said he didn't suspect his retirement would be permanent, expressing optimism that he would be able to return some day.Patrick, a seventh-round pick of the Giants in 2007, abruptly called it quits Saturday.Patrick, 26, spent his first four seasons with Arizona, and had 15 catches for 123 yards last season.
