Fox Sports Florida:
Add recently retired special teams coach Mike Westhoff to the list of people chiming in on the troubled season of the New York Jets and their use of Tim Tebow.
Speaking on Miami radio station 560 WQAM on Friday, Westhoff, who spent 15 years as a special teams coach with the Dolphins before serving on the Jets staff the past 12 seasons, called the situation "an absolute mess."
It was a distraction and really a shame," Westhoff told show host Joe Rose, "because thats a hard-working young man.
Tebow was traded from Denver to New York amid much fanfare last offseason. Expectations were that, even if the Jets didn't make him their starter, they'd unleash him in the Wildcat.
But it never materialized.
Tebow saw limited in action in 12 games, completing 6 of 8 passes for 39 yards and rushing for 102 yards. He failed to score a touchdown.
Tim Tebow, as an NFL quarterback, hes very limited in some things, and if you throw him right in the middle of a drop-back passing offense, he will look very, very average at best, Westhoff said. But if you incorporate him in different facets of your offense, I think he can be a factor. Thats what I felt we were going to do, but we never did it.
To be honest, I dont think anybodys really answered that question -- why didnt we do it? I honestly dont know. I know we didnt practice it, we didnt practice it in training camp. We were going to unveil it -- well, Im still waiting for the unveiling.
Speculation is that the Jets will release Tebow, but where he ends up is anybody's guess. The Jaguars seemingly took themselves out of consideration with newly hired general manager Dave Caldwell saying, "I can't imagine a scenario where he would be a Jacksonville Jaguar."
BEST OF MAXIM
The Denver Broncos just can't escape the shadow of Tim Tebow.
Minutes after the Baltimore Ravens upset the Broncos 38-35 in double overtime Saturday to eliminate Denver from the playoffs, Tebow's brother Peter -- who currently lives in Denver -- celebrated the Broncos' defeat on Twitter.
The Broncos have a complicated history with Tim Tebow. They drafted him in the...
The Jacksonville Jaguars hired David Caldwell as the team’s general manager in recent days, and he took little time to fire head coach Mike Malarkey. Perhaps Mr.Caldwell should pay attention to some league rules before speaking about players that are under contract with other teams.
Tim Tebow has been rumored to be on the radar of the Jacksonville Jaguars, but coaches are not allowed...
According to Mike Garafolo of USA Today Sports, the New York Jets planned on lining quarterback Tim Tebow up as a running back, but never got around to it.
The team had visions of lining up Tebow at running back in traditional sets when they acquired him via trade from the Denver Broncos last March, according to a person with knowledge of the team’s plans at the time of the trade...
Mike Westhoff, the Jets' recently retired special teams coordinator, tells a Florida radio station that the way the team handled Tim Tebow was ''an absolute mess.''
Westhoff tells WQAM in south Florida on Friday that he was ''very, very disappointed'' in the Jets' lack of use of Tebow, the popular backup quarterback acquired last March to...
YOU CAN'T GO HOME AGAIN
Jacksonville's new GM David Caldwell says that even if the Jets release Tim Tebow, he doesn't see the polarizing QB being a good fit for the Jaguars 2013 roster.
Retiring New York Jets special-teams coordinator Mike Westhoff called the situation with quarterback Tim Tebow a nightmare. "It was a mess, it was an absolute mess," Westhoff told WQAM radio in Miami. "You can say whatever else you want, it was really a mess. I was very, very disappointed. "As an NFL quarterback, he's very limited in some things. And if...
His brother can’t start for the New York Jets, yet Peter Tebow found time to relish the troubles of Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. I’m not big on the Bible and His teachings, but isn’t the above tweet unbecoming of a good Christian man? (Peter got a preaching gig in suburban Denver because of his last name.)
Oh, I get it, Tim Tebow was 1-0 in the playoffs for the Broncos...
It's amazing how fast can things change and if you're a Jets fan, you know what I'm talking about. The Jets have gone through alot in these last two seasons and they have been a perfect example of how hard it is to compete in the NFL these days, even if you had recent playoff success.
The Jets have not only missed the playoffs in the last two seasons, but they have...
