Ex-Super Bowl champion arrested over alleged string of robberies
Derrick Ward (32) Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Former NFL running back Derrick Ward is in trouble with the law again, and he is facing several felony charges this time.

Ward, who last played in the NFL for the Houston Texans in 2011, was arrested on Monday following allegations that he robbed multiple businesses in Los Angeles. According to TMZ, law enforcement officials say Ward is accused of using force and fear to rob money from stores, including gas stations. He did not use a gun.

Court records that were obtained by TMZ show that Ward on Wednesday was charged with five felony counts of second-degree robbery.

In addition to the Texans, Ward also played for the New York Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers during his eight NFL seasons. He was part of the Giants’ Super Bowl champion team that spoiled the New England Patriots’ perfect season in 2008.

This is not the first time Ward has faced legal trouble since he retired from the NFL. The 43-year-old was also accused of assaulting and threatening to kill his ex-wife several years ago.
