Jimmy Kennedy insists he isn't the whistleblower who sent the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal into motion. The NFL says otherwise, but Kennedy has taken to Twitter to deny the allegations. In a memorandum issued by the league to all teams Tuesday, the NFL identified Kennedy, a Minnesota Vikings defensive lineman from 2008-10, as the person who originally told former Vikings coach Brad Childress that the Saints had a 10,000 bounty on quarterback Brett Favre in the NFC championship game after the 2009 season. The NFL went on to say that Kennedy identified former Saints defensive lineman Anthony Hargrove as his source. This isn't the first time Kennedy and Hargrove have been linked together. Try to follow along because now it gets a bit confusing. In May, Hargrove issued to the NFL a declaration of his side of the bounty story. In it, Hargrove said he was called into a meeting with former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams and assistant coach Joe Vitt. Hargrove said Williams told him "some people thought that I had told Vikings player Jimmy Kennedy about the existence of a 'bounty' on Brett Favre because I am friends with Jimmy from our playing days at St. Louis." Kennedy took to Twitter back in May, denying anybody told him anything about a bounty on Favre. Now the league says it interviewed Kennedy and Childress, coming to the conclusion that it was Kennedy who told Childress of the bounty. Back on Twitter on Wednesday, Kennedy denied even speaking to the league: --It's really starting to bother me. How can the NFL continue to say I told them about Bounty & they interviewed me? THIS DID NOT HAPPEN! --A memo sent to ALL 32 Teams, Stating I Snitched & said something about N.O bounty program. How can I do that as a VIKING? --This Sucks! I NEVER interviewed with anyone from NFL, No NFL Security, Not Goodell, NO ONE! --My Integrity & Character means the world to me. I respect this game & my fellow players. I have always been a loyal Friend & Teammate. --It bothers me that the respect of my Peers & Coaches is in Jeopardy because of this. So for the last time, I NEVER INTERVIEWED WITH THE NFL! --I NEVER TOLD ANYONE ABOUT A BOUNTY PROGRAM THAT I DIDNTWOULDNT KNOW OF. I NEVER TALKED TO HARGROVE OR ANY SAINTS PLAYER ABOUT THE PROGRAM So who's telling the truth, Kennedy, who played last season for the New York Giants and is currently a free agent, or the NFL? We may never know. But even if Kennedy told Childress of a bounty, it is all pretty minor in the grand scheme of the scandal, and there is no making sense of why the NFL is identifying Kennedy publicly.
