Atlanta Falcons defensive end John Abraham has apologized publicly for his arrest on obstruction of justice charges. Abraham was arrested Monday night when Atlanta police and firefighters were trying to calm a woman who was threatening to jump from a midtown building window. The four-time Pro Bowl pick was charged with two misdemeanors. He said Thursday that ''sometimes you try to do the right thing and it doesn't end up being the right thing.'' Atlanta police officer Christopher Blaise said this week that Abraham refused to leave an area that had been taped off by authorities. Blaise added that Abraham smelled of alcohol, was unsteady on his feet and had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.

Falcons' DeCoud closing the gap to greatness

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. Tony Gonzalez knew immediately that hed have something in common with Thomas DeCoud when he joined the Atlanta Falcons in 2009. The future hall-of-fame tight end and the young safety might have been almost 10 years apart in age, but both were California natives and both attended the University of California-Berkeley. Atlanta Falcons safety Thomas DeCoud played the “meow” game on ESPN anchor Bram Weinstein during the Friday morning edition of SportsCenter. The “meow” game was made famous by the cult classic SuperTroopers. Check out the scene below. How Weinstein went completely unfazed during the 4 minute phone interview is amazing. What about the delivery on DeCoud? Just phenomenal...

Ryan turns perceived slight in Falcons' favor

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan still won't criticize his NFL colleagues for leaving him off a list of the league network's top 100 players this summer. Instead, Ryan has turned that slight to his favor. He has emerged as the NFL leader in passer rating, completion percentage and touchdowns. Now in his fifth year, Ryan finally has a top cast of playmakers and a steady...

Evan’s Hot Seat: Matt Ryan

After 3 weeks of NFL action, there is not a quarterback in football playing the position better than Matt Ryan.  While most of the focus in the early season has been on poor officiating and teams that are underperforming, Matt Ryan has led the Falcons to a 3-0 record and looks poised to join the elite group of quarterbacks in the league.  At 27 years old, with 5 years of experience...

Dominant Ryan leads way for Falcons

Matt Ryan owns the best passer rating in the NFL, and his unbeaten Atlanta Falcons are off to their best start in eight seasons. Cam Newton is enduring a start to his second season with the Carolina Panthers that has been so difficult that he has been forced to deny that he is seeing a therapist. Ryan and the Falcons have already built a two-game cushion atop the NFC South and...

Atlanta Falcons: Week 4 NFL Power Rankings (#2)

Last week: 5 (+3) Record: 3-0 As many good teams as there are in the NFC, there isn’t a clear favorite. Maybe I just like poking holes in teams. Atlanta, however, is the best the NFC has right now and the favorite to represent them in the Super Bowl. The hole you can poke in them is that they rank just 10th in yards per play differential and they’re dominating the turnover battle...

Improved Safety Play is Behind Atlanta's Defensive Success

When Brent Grimes went down in the closing minutes of the week one contest against the Kansas City Chiefs many thought it wasn't anything serious. He was able to walk off completely under his own power and even though he was limping it didn't seem too bad. The bad news came early in the week following the game. Brent Grimes had torn his Achilles. Within a blink of an eye...

Atlanta Falcons: Tony Gonzalez Still Dominating Defenses at 36

Atlanta Falcons tight end, Tony Gonzalez, has one of my favorite nicknames of all time, "Gonzo".I don't know if it is somehow tied to the "origin of parts unknown" Muppet character with the curly, odd-shaped nose.Or if the name is derived from the actual word which the Muppet character was named for.The chicken or the egg? Who cares.Gonzo is a fitting nickname...

Falcons Owner Arthur Blank Hastened Deal With Referees

Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank was among a handful of owners who hastened the process of reaching an agreement with the 122 regular NFL officials late Wednesday night. Blank, who spoke to Steve Wyche on NFLAM on Thursday morning, said Monday night's fiasco between Green Bay and Seattle increased the urgency to get a deal done. “That's probably reasonable [to assume...

Falcons Keys to Victory: Panthers Edition

The Falcons are off to the best start imaginable as they are 3-0 and flying high. On the flip side, the Carolina Panthers are 1-2 and coming off of a 29 point blow out at the hands of the defending Super Bowl Champions. Everything points to the Falcons being able to win this game. Sounds like an easy bet if that's your thing but let's not start signing up for our players...

Carolina Panthers vs. Atlanta Falcons: Three Bold Predictions

The Carolina Panthers head into Atlanta to take on a new-look Falcons' team that is playing like a true Super Bowl contender. On the flip side, the Panthers are a long ways away from living up to their self-made preseason hype of making it to the big dance.Heading into Week 4, the Falcons are one of three teams that remain undefeated, with the others being the Texans and the...
