A Falcon from day one

According to the AJC, the Atlanta Falcons have agreed to a one-year contract with their long-time center Todd McClure. McClure was originally drafted in the seventh round way back in 1999. From 2002 to 2010, McClure played in every Falcons game. Last year he snapped that streak as he only played in thirteen regular season games.

The Falcons know what they are getting from McClure and he will help bring some stability to an offensive line as the Falcons continue to search for answers on that front. The center spot is the anchor of the offensive line. Not only is the chemistry between center and quarterback important but the center also calls a lot of the blocking assignments when blitzes are shown at the line of scrimmage. McClure's return allows the Falcons to have an answer at that position as they bring Joe Hawley around. It helps the Falcons focus on more pressing needs along the offensive line with their draft picks (possibly Kelechi Osemele).

It's nice to have McClure back in the fold for at least one more year. It's not often that you get to see a player retire with the team that drafted him but it looks like that could happen for McClure and the Falcons.
