Falcons Cut Miles, Sign Shaffer to Practice Squad
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

AUG 30 FALCONS CUT MILES, ADD SHAFFER TO PRACTICE SQUAD The Atlanta Falcons are making their first moves after the 53-man roster deadline.

The team is opening up a spot on the roster by waiving offensive lineman Josh Miles. Now, Atlanta has an open spot on the team that it can use for the waiver wire.

The team also signed 2022 sixth-round pick Justin Shaffer back to the practice squad after he was cut yesterday.

AUG 29 FALCONS ANNOUNCE ROSTER CUTS The Atlanta Falcons are poised to go from 86 players down to 53 by 4 p.m. Tuesday, meaning cuts will be rolling in all day.

The first such move is in, with the Falcons waiving fullback Clint Ratkovich and undrafted rookie running back Carlos Washington Jr., along with cutting defensive lineman Caeveon Patton.

Atlanta has also waived receivers Zay Malone and Keilahn Harris, defensive tackles Demone Harris, Carlos Davis, LaCale London and Timmy Horne, offensive linemen Michal Menet, Trevor Reid and Barry Wesley, tight end Tucker Fisk, cornerbacks Darren Hall and Cornell Armstrong, safety Lukas Denis and linebackers Andre Smith Jr. and Frank Ginda, the reigning USFL Defensive Player of the Year.

During their final wave of cuts, the Falcons released running back Godwin Igwebuike, receiver J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, tight end Parker Hesse, guard Justin Shaffer, tackle Tyler Vrabel, linebacker Mike Jones Jr., outside linebacker Kemoko Turay, cornerbacks Natrone Brooks and Breon Borders and safeties Micah Abernathy and Clifford Chattman.

AUG 26 FOUR OUT The Atlanta Falcons are entering the time of the year when they and the rest of the NFL's teams must get down to the 53-man roster. The deadline to do so is Tuesday ... but on Saturday some decisions are already being made.

Notable among those: Atlanta has decided to move on from offensive lineman Jalen Mayfield.

Multiple reports have it that Mayfield, defensive linemen Justin Ellis and Delontae Scott, and cornerback Bless Austin are the early cuts ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

AUGUST 3 FRANKS CUT The Atlanta Falcons are making some changes to their roster, according to NFL insider Aaron Wilson.

Defensive end Ikenna Enechukwu, wide receiver Chris Blair and quarterback Feleipe Franks were all dealing with injuries, leading to their inevitable cuts.

Among the group, Franks is the most notable, having played 20 games in the past two seasons for the Falcons.

JULY 31 FALCONS CUT TRICKETT The Atlanta Falcons had one too many on their roster, resulting in cutting kicker Matthew Trickett, per NFL insider Aaron Wilson.

Trickett signed a three-year deal with the Falcons earlier this offseason ... a surprise move given the fact that Younghoe Koo is one of the more established kickers in the NFL.

With Trickett gone, Koo is the only kicker on the roster at the moment, all but confirming he remains the franchise kicker going into the season.
