PLAYERS: Tony Gonzalez
TEAMS: Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith doesn’t have a timetable for when he expects tight end Tony Gonzalez to make a final decision on his future. “I don’t that there is anything concrete in terms of a timetable,” Smith said. “But I think that conversation will take place. I had a conversation with him the week after the season and we’ll probably have another here real soon.” Smith says that Gonzalez’s situation doesn’t hinder them from preparing for April’s NFL draft. “You have to do your due diligence on all of those positions,” Smith said. Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan has fully recovered from the sprained left AC shoulder joint he suffered against the San Francisco 49ers during the NFC Championship game, reports D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Falcons coach Mike Smith told reporters that Ryan has moved past the rehab process and is now working out in the weight room. “He...

Falcons GM: There’s a 50-50 chance Tony Gonzalez plays next Season

When the Atlanta Falcons season ended in the NFL Championship, many considered it a foregone conclusion that future Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez was going to call it quits. Having played a total of 16 NFL season and being the all-time leader in Touchdowns and receptions for tight end, a Super Bowl was the only thing missing from Gonzalez’ resume. It appears Gonzalez...

Atlanta Falcons Mount Rushmore: Four Franchise Icons

Every team in the NFL has a number of players that are considered icons for that team. Some players are currently playing for those teams while others have been out of the league for many years. For most of these players, it does not matter if you were a fan of their team or not, you still know who they are. For instance, the Miami Dolphins have Dan Marino, Larry Csonka, Jason Taylor...

Ex-Falcon Ray Edwards KOs opponent without touching him

In what has to be one of the funniest boxing knockouts— or worst dives— ever, former Minnesota Vikings and Atlanta Falcons defensive end Ray Edwards laid out an opponent without even touching the guy. Edwards, who was released by Atlanta in November, gets into the ring with some chubby little guy in a "Co-Main Event" professional boxing match in West Fargo, ND the...

Richard Sherman calls Roddy White “an easy matchup”

Despite grabbing five passes for 76 yards and a touchdown, Richard Sherman says covering Roddy White during their divisional playoff game was “easy” (Credit: AP Photo) During their divisional round match-up, Seattle Seahawks corner back Richard Sherman and Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White were in each other’s faces. While speaking to NFL Live today, according to Sherman...

Atlanta Falcons 2013 Offseason Preview

Two years ago, the Atlanta Falcons went all-in for Julio Jones, trading five picks to move up and grab the National Champion wide-out. It was a clear statement that they felt Jones was the only piece they needed to turn the Falcons into a Super Bowl team. Jones is now a Pro-Bowler, a possible All-Pro, and a thousand yard receiving tandem with Roddy White. The Falcons as a team,...

The Falcons want a new stadium, possibly outside of Atlanta?

Just as the New England Patriots did to the city of Boston years ago before the move to Foxboro, Massachusetts, the Atlanta Falcons are doing to their host town, Atlanta, Georgia, now. Atlanta Falcons President and CEO Rich McKay told the Atlanta City Council that if the deal the two sides negotiated for a new $948 million, retractable-roof stadium does not become a reality, the...

Nicholas Capes, fighter who got knocked about by Ray Edwards’ phantom punch, gets suspended (Video)

Free agent defensive end Ray Edwards has always had a thing for boxing, but I highly doubt he ever thought scoring a knockout could be as easy as it was during a recent match in North Dakota against a “fighter” named Nicholas Capes. The video you see above has gone viral, and it clearly shows Capes taking the dive of the century early in the fight when Edwards missed him with...

Matt Ryan Injury Update

Just because it’s the offseason doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be getting updates on some key fantasy players as they rehab from in season injuries. Word is Matt Ryan is fully healthy after suffering a sprained acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) in the NFC championship against the 49ers. Ryan was driven into the turf by linebacker Ahmad Brooks just before the final play of the game...

Falcons, Smith are ideal match for long term

ATLANTA When Falcons owner Arthur Blank sifted through the rubble that was his team following the 2007 season Michael Vick off to jail, Bobby Petrino quitting before the season ended at 4-12 he wanted to achieve one goal above all else: Make the franchise relevant. By hiring Thomas Dimitroff as his general manager and Mike Smith as head coach, Blank immediately realized that...

A Boxing Flop Soccer Players Would Be Proud Of

Former Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards is a boxer, or he would like you to think he is. During his latest fight he fought a last minute opponent who was much smaller, had shorter reach, and had a fairly large belly. That man’s name was Mike Smith, and Miek Smith wanted nothing to do with Ray Edwards. Check out the technically not TKO by Ray with a massive whiff to Mike’s...
