The Panthers led 17-14 going into the 4th Quarter in Atlanta. Their Heisman Trophy quarterback, Cam Newton, just miles from where he grew up could taste a sweet victory against his childhood team. Newton had scored a touchdown and done a Deion Sanders’ like high-step dance to celebrate in the endzone. The Hall of Famer who wore No. 21 for the Falcons was honored at halftime, but Newton’s tribute was not as appreciated by the Georgia Dome fans. Fittingly, soon after the mocking of a Falcon legend, the Falcons “scammed” Newton by picking him off twice in the final quarter and Cecil’s boy ended the game on the wrong end of a 31-17 score. Michael Turner re-established the running game that defined last season’s 13-3 Falcons’ squad with 139 yards on 27 carries. “It started with the O-line. They came out with a nasty attitude today, that they were going to move the line of scrimmage,” Turner said. “I love to see green, man.
