According to Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff, the team has not offered any upcoming free agents contract extensions. Dimitroff told the media Friday afternoon, “We have not made any decision as of yet. Again, we’re still in the recalibration mode right now. Coming here and leaving the combine having viewed the next class will give us much more of an idea of where we’re going with our moves”. This news may come to a surprise to many due to the sheer amount of players scheduled to hit free agency. This can either be a a smart negotiation tactic or a franchise costing misjudgement. Keep in mind that negotiations with agents cannot commence until the 8th of March, but many other teams have begun “talks”. Some of the names expected to hit the free agent market include: Corey Peters, Johnathan Babineaux, Mike Johnson, Jeremy Trueblood, and Peria Jerry. Atlanta has three defensive tackles set to hit free agency, they cannot afford to let them all walk, but the depth this year at the defensive tackle position is too deep to make any rash decisions. This will be an important scouting weekend for the Falcons, they cannot afford to miss on many picks.
