Atlanta Falcons center Joe Hawley was suspended for four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy, the NFL announced Monday. "Joe Hawley of the Atlanta Falcons has been suspended without pay for the team's next four games for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances," according to a statement from the league. Hawley's suspension begins immediately, and he will be eligible to return on Monday, Dec. 17, after the Falcons' game against the Giants on Dec. 16. Hawley, 24, started 12 games last season, but did not start any of the six games in which he played this year. Hawley's agent, Kevin Omell, said in a statement that Hawley tested positive for Adderall. "In September, Joe Hawley made a mistake by taking an Adderall pill," Omell said in his statement. "He did not file the paperwork to apply for an exemption for this medication, and now understands that the NFL/NFLPA drug policies have strict r...

Fantasy Football Week 11 Injury News: Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones has had a solid fantasy football season, ranking 12th in ESPN among receivers so fat this season. The speedy reviver has not practiced this week and could miss this afternoon’s game against the...

Falcons bounce back, edge Cardinals

ATLANTA -- On a miserable day, Matt Ryan came through when it counted for the Atlanta Falcons. Ryan overcame a career-worst five interceptions, guiding Atlanta to its only offensive touchdown in the fourth quarter, and the Falcons rallied from their first loss of the season for a sloppy 23-19 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. The Falcons (9-1) turned it over a...

Falcons' Julio Jones leaves with ankle injury

Falcons receiver Julio Jones has left Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals with an ankle injury. Jones missed practice this week after he sprained his right ankle in last week's loss at New Orleans. He appeared to aggravate the injury late in the third quarter. Warning: The 2012 Buccaneers are for real

There are still six games remaining in the 2012 NFL season but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are already turning doubters into believers. This past offseason, which was arguably one of the best the Bucs have had in history, has proven to pay off just 10 games into the season. But let’s step back for a moment. The new coaching staff, free agent acquisitions, and draft picks the team...

Arizona's offense fails to support D's big day

ATLANTA (AP) -- On a miserable day, Matt Ryan came through when it counted for the Atlanta Falcons. Report: Ray Edwards Waived by Falcons for Not Taking Part in Team Gathering

In Week 10, the Atlanta Falcons saw their chances at a perfect season dashed by the rival New Orleans Saints. Following the defeat, Head Coach Mike Smith called a team huddle. Apparently, defensive end Ray Edwards didn’t get the memo that he was a part of the team, as it reportedly took him three requests and an ordering from his teammates to join the huddle. NFL Network contributor...

Falcons Beat Cardinals 23-19 in Another Circus-Ugly Win

The Falcons seemed ready to pack in the season this afternoon.  Playing at home against an Arizona Cardinals team on a five game losing streak seemed like a guaranteed win.  Matt Ryan threw a career high five interceptions (three off tips), with the Falcons turning the ball over a ridiculous six times.     Oh, and we have no run game.   The offensive...

Falcons Released DE Ray Edwards For Refusing To Join The Team Following Week 10′s Loss

The Falcons made a surprising decision to release DE Ray Edwards early last week. Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported on Sunday that the decision to release Edwards had to do more to with his reluctance to join a “team gathering” following Week 10′s loss to the Saints, per Mark Sessler of NFL.com. Falcons head coach Mike Smith reportedly asked the team to gather in the...

ZB Notebook 11-20-12

I’m not going to say the Atlanta Falcons are a bad team. At 9-1 they deserve more respect than that, but they may be the least convincing 9-1 team I’ve seen in awhile. The offense remains explosive, but the team lost five picks to Arizona at home last weekend in a game that shouldn’t have been as close as four points. The run game is nonexistent and now news has leaked that...
