Falcons LB Nate Landman Injured, Carried Off vs. Jets
USA Today Sports

The Atlanta Falcons have lost another key member of their defense in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the New York Jets inside MetLife Stadium.

Falcons linebacker Nate Landman suffered a left leg injury after a run for no gain on 2nd and 10 by Jets ballcarrier Dalvin Cook.

Landman remained down after the play, laying on his back while Falcons trainers came to his side. Falcons safety Jessie Bates III took a knee alongside his teammate.

The second-year pro was helped to the sideline and didn't put any pressure on his left leg until he reached the blue tent, where he limped in to receive additional attention.

Landman ascended into a starting role after Atlanta lost linebacker Troy Andersen to injured reserve with a pectoral injury; Smith has previously said Andersen is likely to miss the remainder of the season.

Andersen's absence opened the door for Landman to step in and he's largely shined, currently sitting tied for third on the team in tackles with 73 while adding four tackles for loss, two sacks and an interception.

At the time of his departure, Landman added five tackles, one tackle for loss, a pass deflection and a forced fumble to his season totals.

Landman was replaced in the middle of Atlanta's defense by veteran linebacker Andre Smith Jr., who's played in five games and made one tackle.

Atlanta had already lost starting cornerback A.J. Terrell (concussion) and right tackle Kaleb McGary (knee) to injuries earlier in the game.

The Falcons, who hold a tiebreaker over the New Orleans Saints for first place in the NFC South, lead the Jets, 13-8, halfway through the fourth quarter.
