The Atlanta Falcons listed defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux as limited after the defensive tackle practiced Wednesday with an injured right ankle. Atlanta (8-5) hosts the Jacksonville Jaguars (4-9) on Thursday night. Babineaux, who did not practice Tuesday, has started all 57 of his games since Mike Smith was hired as Falcons head coach in 2008. The seven-year veteran has 19 career sacks, but just one in 10 games this season. If Babineaux can't start, Peria Jerry will take his place at the three-technique spot next to nose tackle Corey Peters. Cornerback Brent Grimes is still recovering from minor surgery on his right knee and will miss his third straight game. Dominique Franks is starting in Grimes' left-side spot. Starting left tackle Will Svitek (groin) is listed as questionable.

Corey Peters named Falcons’ NFL man of the year

Corey Peters in action here earlier this season against the Detroit Lions. AP Falcons defensive tackle Corey Peters was selected as the team’s nominee for the 2011 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award on Monday during a banquet at the Commerce Club. “This award means a great deal to me,” said Peters. “There were plenty of my teammates that were so deserving of this award...

Roddy White Admits Matt Ryan’s Deep Passes Ain’t Really What’s Up

Apparently Roddy White was raised to believe that (brutal) honesty is the best policy. As a fan of both the Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles (I love saying that cause it pisses people off ^_^) I find that my favorite Falcon and my favorite Eagle both have the same personality trait — BRUTAL HONESTY. Asante Samuel said earlier this year that the Eagles front office was...

Falcons still working on deep passing game

The Falcons are still working on the timing of the deep passing game. The Falcons, who had won five of the last six before losing to the Texans Sunday, were working their short and intermediate passing game well. But to loosen up the Texans whey wanted to throw it deep. Against Carolina, the Falcons will need to figure out their full passing attack before they run the risk of falling...

Falcons squander another chance to take control

After squandering another chance to take control of their playoff fate, the Atlanta Falcons are beginning to realize this is the way it's going to be. In all likelihood, the postseason race will come down to the final week. The Falcons (7-5) are right in the thick of the wild-card race, tied with Detroit and Chicago, but their hopes of repeating as NFC South champions are beginning...

Jared Allen Told Ray Edwards, "I'm Going To Punch You Square In Your Wiener, Dude" Before Punching Him Square In The Wiener

If not, here it is, and here's Allen's frank explanation of the incident from today's episode of PFT Live: <a href="http://deadspin...

The Two Sides Of Matt Ryan

Is Matt Ryan a disappointing QB? Or a good QB on a disappointing team? The answer, maddeningly enough, is both. And the reality is that the Atlanta Falcons will either succeed or fail based on which quarterback plays on Sunday. Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is coming up on a crossroads early in his career. When Matt Ryan is good, he is very, very good. Ryan tossed a career-high...

Falcons wary of Panthers' test

The Falcons know the rematch with the Carolina Panthers could be treacherous. The Falcons defeated the Panthers 31-17 on Oct. 16 when they intercepted rookie quarterback Cam Newton three times and running back Michael Turner rushed for 139 yards and scored two touchdowns. "They've really done a nice job in evolving the offense over the season," Falcons coach Mike...

Q and A: Mike Smith’s Monday press conference

The following are excerpts from Falcons coach Mike Smith’s Monday press conference following the 17-10 loss to the Texans. Good afternoon. Obviously we didn’t make enough plays in the ball game yesterday to get the outcome that we wanted. We did some very uncharacteristic things on offense and defense that put us in a situation that we could not overcome. With that I will open...
