With the final pre-season game out of the way the Falcons have made their cuts and have gotten down to their 53 man roster. There were a few semi surprises along the way as the Falcons parted ways with Spencer Adkins, Dominique Franks, James Rodgers, Kerry Meier and Mike Cox.

DominiqueFranksA possibility for the practice squad?

The name Dominique Franks definitely stands out on the cut list. Franks looked pretty good as a punt returner during the pre-season and some thought that would help him stick with the team. Maybe more surprising that cutting Dominique Franks was the decision to keep Robert McClain. If another team doesn't grab Franks, I would look for him to get onto the practice squad.

Spencer Adkins was another one of the bigger names on the final cut list. Adkins filled in as a spot starter last year due to injuries but the team essentially kept Robert James over him.

Fullback Mike Cox was also cut. This shows that the Falcons are pretty high on Lousaka Polite and also hope that Jason Snelling can give them some minutes when needed at fullback.

Kerry Meier also missed the final cut as he was beat out by Kevin Cone and Tim Toone.

As far as who made the team that you might not know.....We already talked about Cone, Toone, Polite and McClain. Tommy Gallarda get the third TE position. The Falcons kept rookie Charles Mitchell and veteran Chris Hope as back-up safeties. At RB, the Falcons kept Antone Smith. Late round draft pick, Travian Robertson of South Carolina made a late push to make the team. The Falcons kept six defensive ends including rookie Jonathan Massaquoi and second year man Cliff Matthews.

Here is a link to the full roster.

There still will be tweaks to the roster but this is pretty much the roster that we will go to battle with.

Falcons make final cuts; Franks, Zelenka among those gone

The Atlanta Falcons made a couple of surprises when they announced their final cuts on Friday, parting ways with cornerback Dominique Franks who outwardly seemed to have the punt returner job locked down as well as long snapper Joe Zelenka while undrafted free agent quarterback Dominique Davis earned a spot on the active roster. The Falcons are now down to 53 men. They can sign...

NFL News: Atlanta Falcons make roster moves to reach 53-man roster

NFL teams had until 9 p.m. on Friday in order to reach their official 53-man roster. The Atlanta Falcons have announced their official moves this evening in order to trim their roster to the official roster size. 21 roster moves have been announced by the Falcons. Perhaps the most notable player released by Atlanta was CB Dominique Franks.Franks was a fifth-round selection in the...

Atlanta Falcons keep Dominique Davis of ECU on their roster

Per a league source, Dominique Davis the former Lakeland High School stand out made the Atlanta Falcons roster.  Davis looked very good in the preseason and will continue to make strides in his career.  Davis signed a deal with the Falcons after going undrafted and reunited with his former teammate Matt Ryan.  Davis’ current placement on the depth chart is 2nd string QB position...

Falcons add five to their practice squad

The Falcons announced five additions to their eight-man practice squad today, having signed wide receivers Drew “D.J.” Davis and Marcus Jackson, offensive tackle Bryce Harris, defensive tackle Micanor Regis, and cornerback Peyton Thompson. All five players were released by the team yesterday in their 53-man cutdown. The Falcons have set no timetable for when three other players...

Falcons cut CB Franks, LS Zelenka

Cornerback Dominique Franks and long snapper Joe Zelenka were among the Falcons' cuts down to Friday's 53-player limit. Zelenka has been a long-time snapper, while Franks was a fifth-round pick in 2010. The team also released fullback Mike Cox. Safety Shann Schillinger was placed on injured reserve, wide receiver Kerry Meier was waived/injured and could also land on injured...

Falcons trim roster, cut CB Franks, LB Atkins

The Atlanta Falcons have reduced their roster to 53 players, cutting cornerback Dominique Franks and linebacker Spencer Adkins. The Falcons also released fullback Mike Cox and long snapper Joe Zelenka on Friday, electing to go with younger players at those spots. Franks was a fifth-round pick in 2010 and made four starts last season. Adkins started the playoff loss against the...

Which Falcons could become trade bait?

This is the port in the summer where people are talking about trading players, and I just wanted to quickly go over some Falcon players that probably have the most trade value. Obviously, a player like Roddy White would have huge trade value, but the Falcons won’t trade him. I’m looking more at guys that appear to be somewhat expendable and have an outside shot that it could...

Falcons want more than just playoffs

The Atlanta Falcons have made a habit of reaching the playoffs. That's not good enough anymore. A few days after the Falcons were routed by the eventual Super Bowl champion New York Giants in a wild-card game last season, owner Arthur Blank summoned general manager Thomas Dimitroff and coach Mike Smith for what amounted to a humbling public apology. The message was clear:...

Falcons' Preseason Stock Exchange (Week 4)

Looking at which players potentially stepped up in last night’s loss to Jacksonville to make one final push for a roster/practice squad position. As well as those players that may have not. Stock Up Kevin Cone – Cone has had a few too many drops this preseason, but he made up for it with a nice catch and run for the team’s lone passing touchdown against Jacksonville....

Falcons backups fall short against Jaguars

The Falcons dropped their fourth and final preseason game to the Jacksonville Jaguars by a score of 24-14. The game got off to a great start for the Falcons, going up 7-0 on the second play of the game. But from that point on, the Jaguars battled back to pull out the victory. Dominique Davis got the start for the Falcons under center and played every snap. He finished the game...

NFL Upsets: Kansas City Chiefs Will Clip the Atlanta Falcons

The NFL season is always loaded with upsets and week one will be no exception as the Kansas City Chiefs will upset the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons have high expectations with Matt Ryan under center and two exceptional targets in wide receivers Julio Jones and Roddy White. Meanwhile, Kansas City is expected to struggle in the mediocre AFC West and they will be considered lucky...

2012 NFC South Preview: New Orleans Saints Falling

1. Atlanta Falcons I hate picking the Falcons. I really do. It’s probably the most boring pick possible in this division. However, in a division as turbulent as the NFC South, I’ve opted to go with the most stable team.Atlanta returns almost every contributor from last season’s 10-6 team.Matt Ryan, Michael Turner, Roddy White, Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez are the skill guys...

Young Players Shine as the Jacksonville Jaguars Defeat the Atlanta Falcons 24-14

The much maligned 4th preseason game is usually a boring game that pits backups against other backups, but some of us see it as an opportunity for young players to show what they are made of. There were many of those moments as the Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Atlanta Falcons 24-14. We will go over a few of these players after the picture. 1. WR Kevin Elliott Elliot basically...
