Dirk Koetter has decided to remain with the Atlanta Falcons as their offensive coordinator. The Falcons on Wednesday confirmed news media reports that Koetter would stay. Multiple outlets indicated that Koetter has signed a contract extension through next season. The news comes one day after Koetter met with the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday about their head-coaching job, which opened when Romeo Crennel was fired Monday. Koetter also had similar interviews scheduled with the Cleveland Browns and the Philadelphia Eagles, who are seeking candidates to replace fired coaches Pat Shurmur and Andy Reid, respectively. Koetter, 53, is considered as offensive guru for a team that enters the playoffs as the top seed in the NFC. He has helped Matt Ryan become one of the best quarterbacks in the league while developing a potent Falcons passing game that averaged 281.8 yards this season.
