Yesterday, I featured an undrafted rookie free agent and rookie camp tryout invitee, tight end Aron White, as a possible darkhorse for a roster (or practice squad) spot for the Falcons this season. Today, let's take a look at another position. When we think about the quarterback position for the Falcons we think about stability. Matt Ryan has been solid as a starter. He still has room to grow but he's got the starter position on lockdown. His back-up, Chris Redman, was re-signed this year to a one-year contract. The rest of the quarterback picture is a bit of a mystery.

From ECU to the ATL?

John Parker Wilson was good enough to beat out DJ Shockley for the Falcons third QB spot but since he's earned that spot we really haven't learned anything about him. In three years for the Falcons, JPW is yet to see "real" game action. Is he set in stone as the third QB and future second stringer or could we see somebody unseat him this year? I don't know the specific practice squad rules but I would think that his time on the practice squad has to be nearing an end.

Enter Dominique Davis from ECU. Davis went undrafted but the Falcons had their eye on him before the draft as they attended his pro day and met with Davis on that day as well. An interesting link between Davis and the Falcons is that Davis started his college football career at Boston College before transferring to East Carolina. Who was the starter for Boston College when Davis arrived on campus? Matt Ryan.

From reading his draft profiles, it seems like Davis would have a lot of work to do with his mechanics but he does have a strong arm, is said to be a hard worker and has the leadership skills that Thomas Dimitroff values. Can Davis make a good enough showing to get him a longer look at training camp and a possible spot on the practice squad this season?
