The Falcons look to be in the running back market this
offseason, according to those who know. Chances are the team will cut ties with
30-year old Michael Turner and look for a younger runner.
While Turner provides toughness and power as well as a solid
locker room presence for the Falcons, he turns 31 this week and “scouts say his
ability to bounce and cut isn’t what it was,” according to Pompei.
Turner gained 800 rushing yards on 222 attempting with 10
touchdowns for the Falcons this season. He’s rushed for 6,081 yards and 60
touchdowns in five seasons with Atlanta.
Falcons’ backup Jacquizz Rodgers isn’t a featured back, and
the team could either look at the draft or free agency – Shonn Greene anyone? –
to address running back.
