According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Falcons CB Brent Grimes could target a one-year deal during free agency rather than the long-term deal that almost certainly would have received prior to tearing his Achilles tendon.
The fact Grimes will be 29 and coming off a significant injury to his Achilles will leave plenty of questions regarding his productivity moving forward. If Grimes is to sign a one-year deal with the Falcons it’s likely to prove that he is worth the big contract despite the injury.
We currently have Grimes listed as the No. 17 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents List.
Schefter also writes that impending free agent S William Moore is a “prime candidate” for the franchise tag this offseason.
It would only run the Falcons $6.798 million to franchise a safety, which is a very reasonable salary for someone coming off a very productive season. Moore graded out positively in both the pass and the run according to Pro Football Focus and was ranked the No. 17 beset safety this season.
The franchise tag would buy the Falcons some additional time to work on a long-term agreement, but it seems safe to suggest that if he performs as well as he did in 2013, he won’t have any trouble securing a long-term deal.
We currently have Moore as the No. 28 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents List.
