Found April 29, 2012 on Grits Blitz:

Much like the pick before this one (Lamar Holmes), this pick came as a bit of a surprise. The Falcons have been talking all off-season about their vertical passing game so it make sense that the first non-lineman picked in the draft is a fullback, right? We didn't think so. Fullback was not on our list of needs for the Falcons as you generally pick up a fullback whenever you want in the draft. That being said, the end of the Ovie Mughelli era is coming soon and a replacement for him was needed.

EwingHeir to Ovie Mughelli?

I'm not going to sit here and tell you that I'm an expert on Bradie Ewing but what I can tell you is that he comes from a team that knows how to run the football. Like second round pick Peter Konz, Ewing went to Wisconsin and if there is one thing that Wisconsin is known for (besides partying and cheese) it's running the football. Did Thomas Dimitroff take the Falcons fourth and one failure a little hard this off-season? Maybe.

Ewing was consistently ranked on draft boards among the top fullbacks, so if you are going to reach at least we reached for one of the best players at his position. My guess is that Ewing will develop into a solid pro and a fifth round pick isn't bad for a solid pro. By comparison, Mughelli was a fourth round pick by the Ravens in 2003.

Ex Colts GM Chris Polian headed to Atlanta.

FLOWERY BRANCH—The half-hazard team that the Colts fielded last year was largely put together by their former GM Chris Polian. Polian was ceremoniously shown the door in the off-season as owner Jim Irsay started the team’s rebuilding process. Please click the link below to read the rest of this article.

Falcons second round pick Peter Konz used to do the dirty bird.

The Atlanta Falcons were relatively quiet this off season until this week. Handcuffed by salary cap issues and the lack of a first round pick thanks to last year’s Julio Jones trade, it seemed like this year would be a peaceful year at Flowery Branch. Cue Asante Samuel and Wisconsin center Peter Konz. To read the rest of this article and watch exclusive video on Peter Konz...

Lamar Holmes is the Key to Falcons 2012 Draft

As the 2012 NFL Draft comes to a close and the grades are handed out to the teams, Atlanta's draft hinges on their most questioned pick, Lamar Holmes.  Holmes was universally seen as a reach by Atlanta. Many draft prognosticators had him as a sixth or seventh round prospect. Many fans questioned why Atlanta had passed over prospects like Alameda Ta'amu, Ladarius Green, and...

Will Falcons Trade Up in Day Three?

If you look at the drafts in Atlanta under the current regime you'll notice one thing. They have no qualms about trading up, down, or for players. If GM Thomas Dimitroff wants a player he'll make a trade to get that player; as we saw last year with Julio Jones and this year with Asante Samuel. Dimitroff won't give a second thought to trading away a future pick to help...

Falcons Select Lamar Holmes in Third Round

The Falcons went a bit off the board in the third round as they selected offensive tackle Lamar Holmes of Southern Miss. Earlier, the Falcons had traded down in the draft as they gave up their #83 overall pick to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for the #91 and #164 picks. He's a big boy Clearly the Falcons are addressing their biggest need from last year, protecting Matt...

Falcons hire ex-Colts GM Chris Polian

It may not be overseeing the new-look, Luck-y Colts, or anything luxurious like that, but at least former Colts GM Chris Polian can say he's no longer unemployed. As first reported by ProFootballTalk.com, the Falcons hired Polian to work in their personnel department. An official announcement is expected Monday. Along with his dad, Bill Polian, formerly the Colts VP, he...

Falcons pick So. Miss OT Lamar Holmes in 3rd round

The Atlanta Falcons continued to work on improving their offensive line when they selected tackle Lamar Holmes from Southern Miss in the third round on Friday night. The team selected Wisconsin guard-center Peter Konz in the second round. Holmes, listed at 6-foot-5 and 323 pounds, will have a chance to compete for playing time behind Tyson Clabo and Will Svitek. He played two years...

2012 NFL Draft Breakdown-Atlanta Falcons

The 2012 NFL Draft is now in the books. The Atlanta Falcons were short on draft picks this season after having to complete their trade last season with the Cleveland Browns in order to move up and acquire WR Julio Jones. Atlanta did not have a selection this season until the 55th overall selection in the second-round. I do not assign draft grades to teams until after players actually...

The Friday Blitz: Saturday Draft Edition

The Atlanta Falcons came into Friday night with a second and third round pick. Before the draft something huge happened…if you haven’t heard by now you should defect to being a cheating Saints fan. Anyhow, the Asante Samuel trade was the best front office decision in free agency since getting Tony Gonzalez. Asante is a pro bowl play maker that immediately solidifies the...

Falcons Must Target OL and DL in Round Two

With the first day of the NFL Draft wrapped up many teams are looking to grab some of the impact fallers from the first day. Propsects like Coordy Glenn, Peter Konz, Janoris Jenkins, and Courtney Upshaw will all on the board when the clock starts for the Rams today. The Falcons won't be selecting until 22 picks after the Rams, but several impact linemen could still be there at...

Holmes Drafted In Third Round

Southern Miss offensive tackle Lamar Holmes was chosen in the third round of the 2012 National Football League Draft by the Atlanta Falcons.

Scouting Report: Lamar Holmes

Brought to you by: FalcFans.com When the Falcons drafted Southern Miss offensvie tackle Lamar Holmes, I’m sure I was among many Falcon fans that were perplexed. Holmes had been designated by many draft sites as a late round project, and here the Falcons a team that desperately needed a left tackle had just taken him in the third round. It suggested they thought much more highly...

Falcons add twenty undrafted free agents

The Falcons added twenty undrafted free agents according to SB Nation Atlanta. In addition to the team’s six draft picks, that puts the Falcons roster one shy of the 90-man limit allowed in the off-season. It’s likely that the Falcons will release their official list tomorrow. The Falcons signed wide receivers LaMark Brown (Minnesota State-Mankato), wide receiver Mike Calvin...
