Falcons Sign C Brett Romberg, Release Six Players

The Atlanta Falcons placed six players on waivers and added a veteran center on Tuesday. Waived were wide receivers Tim Buckley and Doug Beaumont, running back Phillip Sylvester, cornerback Kirk Belgrave, and linebackers LaMarcus Thompson and Youri Yenga. Veteran Brett Romberg was signed to an undisclosed contract. The 31-year-old former undrafted free agent out of the University of Miami has started 18 of 42 games during a seven-year career with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2003-06), St. Louis Rams (2006-08), and Falcons, where he appeared in nine games in 2009 before he was released last September. Earlier today, head coach Mike Smith said that knee surgery will end center Todd McClure's streak of 144 consecutive starts in Week 1.
