As a junior at Troy, Jonathan Massaquoi weighed about 260 pounds when he led the Sun Belt Conference with 131/2 sacks. As a senior last season, Massaquoi was up to 275 pounds, and he had only six sacks. Coach Mike Smith says the Atlanta Falcons were looking for the lighter version of Massaquoi when they selected the defensive end in the fifth round of last month's NFL draft. The 6-foot-2 Massaquoi says he's back at about 259 pounds for the Falcons' rookie minicamp this week as he looks to show he can join John Abraham and Ray Edwards as top pass rushers. Massaquoi says he's looking forward to learning from Abraham, who led the team with 9 1/2 sacks last season. Abraham turned 34 last week.

Checking in on Falcons Rookie Camp (Day 2)

Peter Konz, Charles Mitchell, Bradie Ewing and Matt Hanson were among the names that made some noise during day one of the Atlanta Falcons rookie camp on Friday. When asked about day two, Mike Smith said it was too early to call out any standouts but said that he liked the overall energy. Let's take a look around the web at some of the guys who garnered press in day two: Massaquoi...

Matt Ryan hits the gym

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is trying to achieve something that has eluded him since the start of his NFL career: win a playoff game.  So he’s been hitting the gym with a vengeance to work on his arm strength.  “I think we’re off to a good start,” said Ryan. “It’s weight training, getting in there and training with weights.  It’s learning to condition myself...

Falcons sign 2nd-round draft pick Konz

The Atlanta Falcons have signed rookie offensive lineman Peter Konz and three other draft picks to multiyear contracts. Terms of the deals were not announced by the team. Atlanta finished a three-day rookie minicamp on Sunday. Konz, selected in the second round out of Wisconsin, will compete for the right guard job. Atlanta signed fullback Bradie Ewing, a fifth-round pick from...

Konz impresses on 1st day of Falcons rookie camp

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) -- Coach Mike Smith likes what he's seen from one of the Atlanta Falcons' two high-profile rookie offensive linemen. Peter Konz, a second-round draft pick from Wisconsin, looked the part of a potential NFL starter as the Falcons opened a three-day rookie minicamp Friday. Unfortunately, tackle Lamar Holmes, a third-round pick from Southern Mississippi...

Checking in on Falcons Rookie Camp (Day 1)

Over the last few days we've profiled some guys we are going to be watching at the Falcons rookie camp this weekend. One interesting note is that our second round pick Peter Konz is being cross-trained at center and guard. Also, Lamar Holmes is going to miss the camp with a minor (keep your fingers crossed) foot injury. Here's the skinny on day one from Falcons mini-camp...

Smith likes leaner version of Massaquoi

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) -- In his 2010 season at Troy, Jonathan Massaquoi weighed about 260 pounds when he led the Sun Belt Conference with 13 sacks. Last season, Massaquoi was up to 275 pounds, and he had only six sacks. Coach Mike Smith said Saturday the Atlanta Falcons were looking for the lighter version of Massaquoi when they selected the defensive end in the fifth round...

(Way too early) Atlanta Falcons 2012 Point Spreads

Earlier this week, Cantor Gaming (which runs several Vegas sportsbooks) released game by game point spreads for just about every NFL game. We understand that it's nowhere close to the season but I thought it would be interesting to take a look at where they have the Falcons slotted against their opponents as it stands right now. Odds are this place will be filled when the NFL...
